THE ROLE:

As Principal Member of Technical Staff in the GPU Libraries group, you will provide technical leadership and strategic support across the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm) ecosystem. This role focuses on working collaboratively as an engineering multiplier, aligning key roadmap deliverables, and enabling customer success. You will work cross-functionally with a team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians working on GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads. This position requires a deep understanding of GPU architecture, software development, and the ability to drive innovation in high-performance computing applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system architects, and product managers, to ensure successful integration of GPU technologies into broader systems.
• Provide technical leadership across teams - Work closely with senior developers, architects, and stakeholders to identify, develop, and enable long-term technical strategy. As a subject matter expert in GPU technologies, provide guidance and mentorship to engineering teams on complex technical challenges.
• Conduct research to explore innovative technologies and methodologies that can improve GPU performance and efficiency. Propose innovative solutions to meet evolving market demands. Design, write, and deliver high-quality software solutions that enhance GPU performance and capabilities.
• Drive the maturity of the software development process and lifecycle, collaborating with your engineers and key stakeholders from QA, DevOps, and program management, to strengthen a culture of continuous improvement.
• Independently research and analyze state-of-the-art techniques and algorithms for the advancement of performance, accuracy, and throughput of the ML/AI ecosystem.
• Champion the growth of our engineering talent by actively participating in hiring, providing impactful mentorship, fostering the professional development of software engineers, and empowering the broader workforce with a deeper understanding of fundamental algorithms.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Strong C++ and Python programming skills with relevant applied experience using CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL for accelerated computing on CPUs and GPUs.
• Knowledge of AI/ML Frameworks, Operators, Patterns, and Architectures. Familiarity with applied use of TensorFlow, PyTorch, and JAX.
• Experience with and demonstrated contributions employing continuous improvement of the software lifecycle, including build robustness, regression and performance management, software deployment and orchestration management (Docker/Kubernetes), and various methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Kanban.
• Demonstrated ability to independently conduct, direct, and mentor teams to perform structured research, produce relevant executive and/or peer-reviewed publications, and distilled and synthesized materials which accelerates learning for peers and colleagues. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated self-management capability.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle including requirements elicitation and analysis, scoping/estimation, coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and continuous integration.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D. are preferred
