About the Role

MWH is currently seeking a detail-oriented qualified Payroll Specialist to manage and process payroll for our workforce. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot payroll discrepancies while working in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions



  • Process payroll for hourly, salaried, and union employees across multiple states.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll cycles, including regular pay periods, off-cycle payments, and special compensation adjustments.
  • Review and validate payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and benefits.
  • Maintain payroll records in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with HR and Accounting teams to ensure payroll data aligns with employee records and financial reporting.
  • Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, including FLSA regulations.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws, certified payroll reporting, and Davis-Bacon Act requirements as applicable.
  • Keep up to date with payroll regulations and adjust processes accordingly to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with audits and provide necessary payroll documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and provide clear explanations for pay statements, deductions, and tax withholdings.
  • Assist with direct deposit setup, payroll deductions, and tax form completion.


Basic Qualifications



  • 4-6 years of payroll experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience with multi-state, Davis Bacon and prevailing wage.
  • Knowledge of relevant Federal/State/local requirements.
  • Knowledge of payroll records and pay practices.
  • Knowledge of all human resource aspects of employee paperwork and its impact on the payroll process.
  • Solid communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Prior work history that demonstrates flexibility and attention to detail.
  • Process oriented and able to work cross functionally in team environments.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • College degree or coursework in Finance, Accounting or related field preferred.
  • FPC certification preferred.

Compensation



  • The anticipated salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000/yr, depending on previous experience.
