giving.uams.edu Summary of Job Duties:The objective of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Division of Institutional Advancement (IA) is to be the exemplary fundraising organization within the state of Arkansas. We are seeking a goal-oriented, metrics-driven individual to join our team as a Director of Development.

This position will support IA in alumni relations for the College of Medicine. The desired traits of a successful director of development include:
-Exemplary interpersonal skills, intellect and curiosity
-Ability to favorably engage sophisticated volunteers and donors with behavioral and linguistic flexibility
-Communication that is thorough, logical, factual and precise in both oral and written presentation
-The ability to distill information and curate meaningful strategies that leverage philanthropy and link sometimes disparate ideas toward progressing the UAMS mission and donor interests and goals

Institutional advancement offers a hybrid workspace approach. An office is available on-site however, remote work within an appropriate home office setting is allowable as well and the setup of which is the responsibility of the employee.

The ideal candidate must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and the innate ability to get things done. The Director of Development serves on a team that is integral to the success of UAMS' Vision 2029 strategic plan, underpinned by a master facilities plan and a comprehensive campaign to secure resources for success. This individual is highly professional and serves as an exemplary colleague, representative and community member.

Development Directors travel and meet in-person with alumni and supporters of UAMS. Travel can be up to 50% of time worked and includes nights/weekends. The position is based in Little Rock at the UAMS main campus for access to administrative meetings and visits with prospects and donors; however, home office residence outside of Little Rock is permitted as long as it is within the state of Arkansas. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or related field plus four (4) years of fundraising or related experience, preferably in raising major and mid-level gifts in an educational or health care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licenses, certificates, or registration: CFRE.

  • Special knowledge, abilities and skills: Ellucian Advance or Salesforce Affinaquest fundraising CRM system.

    The Development Director must be a self-starter, adept with technology and proficient in long-term relationship building and closing investments to the institution within a reasonable timeframe. This individual is highly professional and serves as an exemplary colleague, representative and community member. Higher education comprehensive campaign experience is preferred. The successful candidate will show demonstrated success in closing major gifts.

    Alumni Relations

    • Contact COM Alumni to recruit Class Champions and subcommittees.

    • Maintain contact and update contact info for Alumni Subcommittees.

    • Provide Annual scholarship report/ update for COM Alumni.

    • Connect prospective Alumni major gift prospects to IA team member.

    • Manage/Coordinate COM Advisory and Friends of the College board meetings.

    • Coordinating Friends of the COM- "Alumni Subcommittee" meetings and build and distribute quarterly College of Medicine newsletters.

    • Coordinate with IA for Alumni scholarship donor stewardship - press release/newsletters.

    • Request Class Contact List from Information Services and update outdated information to provide for MGO/DXO team in Institutional Advancement.

    • Work directly with IA to host COM Class Scholarship Events and general scholarship fundraising efforts.

    • Mail & Email event invitations/follow up letters/newsletters (accolades) and additional communications to COM Alumni and Alumni Sub-committee members.

    • Ensure COM Alumni webpage is updated and current.

    • Meet monthly with Institutional Advancement team member for scholarship campaign updates and strategy discussion.

    • Propose addition of Alumni Subcommittee under the UAMS Friends of the College.

      • Alumni Subcommittee would assist the COM/IA new hire in identifying class champions and subcommittee member for the UAMS COM Class Scholarship events.

      • Alumni Subcommittee under Friends of the College of Medicine (COM) board.

        • Committee Structure: Recruit Alumni to the board to represent years by group. i.e. representative for COM 2000-2005 or 2000-2010 That would allow input from different ages of physicians regarding best communication practices and desired events.

          • Facilitate introductions between prospective Alumni donors and Institutional Advancement (IA) team member(s).

          • Work with the Alumni board and IA Development team to identify at least 1 physician leader "Class Champion" for each class.

      • Volunteer Alumni Class Champions and subcommittees.

        • Committee Structure: 1 Class Champion and 8-10 subcommittee members per class.

          • Provide classmates with link to update their contact information in Alumni Records.

          • Work with IA and new class hire to write invitation & letters as well as personally contact fellow classmates for their class scholarship fundraising events and class scholarship updates.

          • Class Champions recruit volunteer subcommittee members (8-10) in each class.

          • Class Champions work directly with IA team member and the Associate Director of Development for COM.

    Administrative

    • Follow processes and procedures for updating donor records in the CRM system of record.

    • Input contact reports and other information in the system in a timely manner and following protocols to ensure the integrity of donor records and to record relevant historical information.

    • Learns and practices HIPPA and FERPA laws and is knowledgeable of updates and changes to each throughout employment; also understands the Donor Bill of Rights and respects the agreement between donors and the institution accordingly.

    • Other duties as assigned.
