HDR seeks a collaborative paralegal with significant experience supporting compliance, privacy, transactional, and corporate legal functions to join its in-house legal team in Omaha, Nebraska. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, enjoys contributing to a team-oriented positive office environment, has great interpersonal and teamwork skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and good judgment, appreciates the necessity of discretion when working with or around confidential or sensitive information, possesses an ability to anticipate and deliver support to our in-house attorneys in accomplishing work effectively and efficiently to satisfy the needs of a dynamic, diverse, and global business team, and the flexibility to manage an evolving variety of assignments.

Primary Objectives

In the role of Compliance and Privacy Paralegal, we'll count on you to:



  • Take the lead on and manage complex assignments with enterprise-wide impact involving compliance, privacy, general corporate, and related areas
  • Review, analyze and distill complex legal risks in compliance with company policies with assigned responsibilities
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and execution of process improvements
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of documents (e.g., policies, procedures, filings)
  • Report to and engage in-house counsel, in some cases outside counsel, and senior management
  • Work collaboratively and harmoniously with internal stakeholders to timely execute legal tasks.
  • Take on new tasks and assignments in support of implementing and strengthening HDR Legal's support of the global enterprise as they evolve over time.
  • Perform legal and factual research utilizing various sources and drafting research results in memorandum format for attorney review.
  • Serve as additional support with attorneys and legal staff, as needed, with international, compliance, conflicts of interest, data privacy or other areas such as drafting resolutions, powers of attorney and other corporate legal documents, and tracking, filing, and otherwise facilitating timely responses to FOIA or other open records requests.
  • Review and process outside counsel and legal consultant invoices against engagement agreements and billing guidelines.
  • Review company policies and practices to promote and adhere to company's goals and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Assist in the oversight and guidance to other members to the legal team (e.g., other paralegals and legal administrative support) as needed.
  • Assist in the professional growth and development of our legal team (e.g., other paralegals and legal administrative support).
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 22 years relevant paralegal experience preferred
  • Investigative mind and strong research
  • Prior law firm experience strongly preferred
  • Certified Paralegal (CP) or Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP) designation or equivalent degree (e.g., Paralegal studies) or work experience.
  • This position is in Omaha, Nebraska; due to our collaborative team environment, we expect candidates to work in the office 5 days / week. Occasional flexibility for work from home is permitted with advance supervisor approval.
  • Aptitude to thrive in dynamic environment and manage competing demands.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree
  • A minimum of 15 years of legal experience working directly with attorneys
  • Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail for this fast-paced, document-intensive position
  • Strong legal analytical skills
  • Strong paralegal writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Legal Tracker with the willingness to learn new software programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with executive management, staff, attorneys, outside counsel and internal and external clients on a daily basis
  • Demonstrated excellent good judgment in taking initiative and proceeding on a project or getting direction and clarification
  • Comfort to work independently to resolve problems and confer with attorney(s) on final solutions or next step processes
  • Must be proactive, flexible, solutions-oriented with ability to navigate through obstacles
  • Must be team-oriented, responsive, collaborative, organized
