Resident Director - East Falls, Full Time

The Resident Director is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member and reports to the Assistant Director of Residential Life. The Resident Director provides leadership for traditional style residence halls and/or apartments on the East Falls Campus. This person will lead/participate in departmental committees and manage administrative and operational functions in assigned residence halls/apartments; provide services directly to students, such social and educational activities; maintain a balance between administrative workload and student interactions; maintain liaison relationships with other University offices; and participate in the overall planning and management of the residence hall system. The Resident Director participates in the on-call duty rotation for campus crisis and emergency response.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Supervises undergraduate/graduate resident assistants in college residence halls and on-campus apartments.
  • Works to implement goals and priorities as outlined in the departmental strategic plan, including student learning and development, as well as operations components in assigned residence halls.
  • Recruits, selects, trains resident assistants, and provides leadership, monitors work performance, ensures staff compliance with established Residential Life policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements in-staff training and development programs for RA in conjunction with the Associate Director of Residential Life.
  • Chairs/co-chairs and/or serves on department and divisional committees.
  • Serves as resource for staff and students in support of roommate conflicts, personal crises, and other concerns. Works in collaboration with other Residential Life staff to support and follow up with students of concern.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with students living in the residence halls/apartments through individual outreach and community meetings; serves as a mediator/facilitator when necessary to provides resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students.
  • Serves as a Community Standards Officer for students referred to the Community Standards process for Residential Facilities policies and Community Standards violations. Adjudicates cases of student behavioral misconduct in consultation with the Assistant Dean/Director of Residential Life and Community Standards.
  • Manages operational functions for residence halls such as key distribution and collection, damage assessment, reporting and billing, maintenance requests, and hall openings and closings; serves as facility manager for residence halls including conducting room checks, reporting and following up on housekeeping, maintenance, and mover requests.
  • Works with RAs, Public Safety Officers, Counseling Services staff, and the Residential Life Management Team to respond to crisis situations in accordance with departmental and institution emergency procedures; serves in an on-call rotation for all area residence halls and apartments on a scheduled basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The ability to collaborate with personnel in public safety, academic departments, and other University offices in order to meet the needs of residential students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend and "on call" assignments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field required.

AND

Experience:

  • 1-3 years previous residence life and/or housing operations experience.

Additional Information

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas and Star Rez preferred
