As an Occupational Health Nurse for Sentry you will provide comprehensive health, wellness and safety services to our associates. You will act as a resource and an advocate for both the associate and the company to encourage the success of optimal health and well-being within the company.

What You'll Do

Sentry looks to you to perform the duties of our medical department to help encourage and ensure the health of our associates. You also will administer and monitor various health service programs while providing medical treatments and counsel.

Additionally you'll:

  • Effectively approve and case manage medical leaves eligible for Family Medical Leave and Disability Pay Continuation benefit. Qualifies associate's absences through review of health care provider records and interviewing associates.
  • Determine if associate's disability qualifies under the American Disability Act by reviewing medical documentation.
  • Lead the interactive process by proposing accommodation possibilities to business management. Coordinate development and implementation of the agreed upon accommodations.
  • Provide emergency, acute and chronic treatment for work related and nonwork-related illness, injuries and health conditions to associates and Board Members. Evaluate injured and ill associates face to face or telephonically and implements appropriate nursing care and referral.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards and maintain compliance within the Bloodborne Pathogen Program, Hearing Conservation and Respiratory Protection Programs.
  • Engage in Accident/Incident follow-up, including state and federal records filing for work related injury/illness. Acts as liaison between employee, workers' compensation carrier and Sentry. Maintain OSHA compliant recordkeeping for occupational injuries/illness.
  • Train First Aid Team members in First Aid/CPR/AED usage. Coordinate medical emergency response programs and First Aid Teams within all Sentry office having 25 or more associates. Coordinate with local community emergency resources.
  • Coordinate and administer a variety of education and preventative programs for associates
  • Collaborate with other onsite resources (onsite clinic professionals, physical therapy, ergonomist) to support associates in need of these services.
  • Act as a liaison between Human Resources, management, associates and the Employee Assistance Program (Sentry Work Life Resources).
  • Assist in developing new procedures where a standard practice is not established and may work with legal, human resources and management in development.

What it Takes

  • Associate degree in Nursing, Bachelor Degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of related work experience.
  • A BSN degree and/or certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred
  • American Red Cross First Aid/AED Instructor Certification is required.
  • Licensed registered nurse in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Experience in one or more of the following -knowledge of ADA, FMLA, workers' compensation, blood-borne pathogens, audiometric testing, EAP programs, pulmonary testing, OSHA, pandemic planning and support, ergonomics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Travel to field offices via company car or plane.
