Position Summary

The Student Care Professional Counselors are the central and first point of contact for students to access the Student Care Network (Counseling, Health, Basic Needs Resources) and other student support services. This position collaborates with students to develop a student success plan, share education about and facilitate connections to appropriate on and off-campus resources and provide accountability through supportive follow up meetings. This position provides case management services, conduct intake assessments, recommend appropriate treatment plans, and coordinate support services. This position assists with outreach and education for the campus community regarding identification and intervention for students of concern. Position also develops unique competencies in assisting students with reducing financial barriers, such as food, housing, legal, and childcare. This position works as part of a dynamic team of mental health and medical care professionals (including nurses, LPCs, psychologists) providing services to an intergenerational community. This position coordinates basic needs and development plans, budgets and initiatives related to the student services, and social needs of students. Position collaborateswith employees, students, and community organizations to build anetwork of supports to assist under-resourced studentsby leveraging existing community resources,coordinatingopportunities forcross-training amongexisting college supports and personnel,and designing and implementing new programming.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
  • Knowledge of care management, intake/assessment, and counseling techniques.
  • Skills in technological support and delivery of student programs and services; knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems; and proficiency in the use of Microsoft application software.
  • Experience working with students in crisis and creating behavioral intervention plans and/or care coordination.
  • Employ and deploy data-informed and results oriented initiatives.
  • Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of Dallas College's current transition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from the full range of diverse populations.
  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities.
  • Experience working with student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to during business regarding students, supervisors, or other employees.
  • Learn, interpret, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment in higher education settings.
  • Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably and complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing quality, institutional excellence, and student success.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community and health care, social service network related to student basic mental health, physical, spiritual and social needs.
  • Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student success units within the institution and with accrediting bodies.
  • Knowledge of mental health and basic needs services for college students.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Responds appropriately to issues in a dynamic, rapidly changing educational/economic environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete intake and assessment with students to fully understand their needs and concerns and develop Student Success Plans with students to encourage realistic goals and identify potential support resources.

  • Implementation and leverage technology platforms such as Titanium and Pieces to support the student care network.

  • Provide appropriate ongoing follow up with students in person or by phone/email/virtual appointment for continuity of care and accountability and to evaluate successes, barriers, and/or gaps in support.

  • In consultation with key college stakeholders, evaluate current student resources and create a strategictwo-yearplan to scale up efforts to address under-resourced student need and gaps in servicesbyincorporatingbest practicesin goal setting and the development of learning outcomes. Specific focus areas willincludehealth and wellness andsupports for students who are parents.

  • Meet individually with students of concern or who may have acute needs (and their families, if necessary) to coordinate and provide ongoing care management in an effort to ensure appropriate services are in place. Consult with Director and Associate Dean, as needed, on acute cases.

  • Be knowledgeable about and connect students with appropriate support services on and off-campus to help students effective navigate the Student Care Network and wrap-aroundbasic needs (including transportation, childcare, emergency aid,benefits screening,and food assistance, etc.).

  • Work closely with campus partners to facilitate coordinated and holistic support measures for students.

  • Utilize electronic documentation systems to create and/or update wellbeing files in Maxient and Pieces to share information with campus partners and guarantee accurate file maintenance.

  • Consult with after hours or weekend emergencies on a limited basis to ensure continuous support for students

  • Assist in the design of programs and conduct trainings to educate students, faculty, and staff about the Student Care Network, student wellbeing, and identifying and responding to students in distress.

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate interventions and sustainable programsover multiple campusesthatameliorate basic needsin a manner that promotes dignity and minimizes marginalization.

  • Communicate,increase awareness, and advocate for students'basic needs to a range of audiencesboth on campus and in the community.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with on- and off-campus stakeholders that support a comprehensive, multidisciplinary,and integrated approach to basic needs.

  • Engage in comprehensive assessment, evaluation, and program improvement byregularly tracking, communicating,and reporting relevant data; integrate feedback into program operations; and develop and review key performance indicators to reducestudents'food, housing,and financial insecurity.

  • Attend relevant trainingsand meetingstoincrease knowledge and expand network of contacts in the community.

  • Plan, organize, and implement campus wide educational programs and participate in outreach activities including but not limited to tabling at key events, integrating information into new student orientationsor onboarding processes, presenting to student clubs, and increasing thecollege's awareness and knowledge ofstudent basic needsthrough presentations and educational events.

  • Assist department personnel with other Student Engagement activities that support student success, holistic wellness, and a sense of belonging, as needed.

  • Assist with threat assessment evaluations.

  • Assist with Psychoeducational Workshops.

  • Managing emergency aid/financial assistance programs

  • Assistance with BNCC monthly mobile pantries and engagement with community.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree preferred in social work, counseling, or related field.

  • Official transcripts required.

  • Two (2) years of related experience

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate license within 90 days of employment (i.e., LMSW, LCSW, NCC, LPC, LMFT) or case management certification.

  • Current and valid Texas driver's license required.

  • Experience working with diverse student and staff populations

  • Experience with CARE Teams/Threat assessment/case management

  • Bilingual preferred.
