Behavioral Health Emergency Services Clinician - 3rd Shift

Milwaukee Mobile Crisis Team

Hourly Pay Rate: $26.24 - $39.60

SIGN ON BONUS $7,500 &
Shift Differentials: $5/hr for weekends, $10/hr for 3rd shift hours

Options for remote work available

On-site clinical supervision provided to individuals with training licenses

Job Summary: The 3rd Shift Behavioral Health Emergency Services Clinician (BHESC) is a member of the Milwaukee Mobile Crisis team that provides crisis assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, and linkage to resources for individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis on the Milwaukee County Crisis Line. The third shift clinician will coordinate in-person responses and dispatch mobile teams to respond in the community.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Conduct psychiatric and psychosocial assessment of youth and adults with significant mental health and co-occurring needs. Regularly evaluate dangerousness to self and others in children and adults (suicidal and homicidal ideation).
  • Intervene in and manage the acute crisis phase of mental illness in the community. De-escalate, stabilize, and resolve mental health crisis events. Coordinate and dispatch crisis mobile response in the community.
  • Effectively reduce any danger to self or others by either therapeutic interventions, arranging for immediate services, and connecting to services and/or supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and the person is engaged in therapeutic services.
  • Implement the plan of care by utilizing psychotherapeutic interventions, related to crisis assessment as well as the development of a crisis plan. Provide assurance through follow up contacts that intervention plans developed during the crisis are being carried out.
  • Consult and collaborate with Emergency Rooms, Behavioral Health Services and Department of Health and Human Services community-based services, law enforcement, and other mental health professionals. Provide community education regarding crisis management and mental health services.
  • Assist with providing transportation when appropriate, provide support to other internal BHS and contracted crisis service programs, telephone triage, may need to respond in person as clinically indicated/directed by Crisis Management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Resident of Wisconsin at the time of application.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License, able to be maintained through employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in mental health crisis.
  • Able and willing to travel 10% of work time within the community.
  • Availability to work 3rd shift, weekends, and holidays as required.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Applicable licensure for Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Licensure in one of the following: LCSW, APSW, LPC, LPC-IT, LMFT, LMFT-IT, or evidence of pursuing licensure in a related field.



NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
