** Cover Letter Required ** In 2013, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine established the Gulf Research Program (GRP) to enhance oil system safety and the protection of human health and the environment in the Gulf region. The GRP seeks to improve understanding of the region's interconnecting human, environmental, and energy systems and fostering application of these insights to benefit Gulf communities, ecosystems, and the Nation. The Program Officer position is within the Gulf Health and Resilience Board (GHRB) of the Gulf Research Program (GRP). The incumbent is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of work in Louisiana as one of three GHRB focal communities in the Gulf region. The GHRB portfolio focuses on building the capacity of regional institutions and organizations to understand and adjust to the compounding effects of climate change, successive disasters, and health disparities on community resilience. The Program Officer works with GRP's partners in Louisiana on a range of programming, including stakeholder engagement activities, community-based participatory research, reports, studies, and other projects that promote the use of science, engineering and medical knowledge to address complex challenges. The incumbent will accomplish this work through a combination of staff-led efforts and the management of grant program investments that seek to reduce the compounding effects of disasters in Louisiana communities. Job Description: The Program Officer will work in a public-facing team environment and have oversight and coordination responsibilities of the GHRB partners and programmatic investments at the community and regional scale. This work includes working with GHRB Board members and GRP/GHRB staff team on initiatives throughout the Gulf region. The incumbent will design, manage, and execute a variety of activities including workshops, studies, and invited or competitive grant funding opportunities. Advanced knowledge of disaster preparation, long-term recovery and community resilience is required, and advanced knowledge of the Gulf region, particularly Louisiana, is preferred. The Program Officer is expected to carry out the roles and responsibilities of the job with minimal oversight provided by the Director or Senior Program Officer. NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES JOB SPECIFICATIONS Preferred Education: Ph.D. in related field preferred. Compensation Range: The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity for all, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. An estimated compensation range for this position is $88,450 - $110,560. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range. This is a benefits-eligible position.
