Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)

JOB FUNCTION:

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that align with the business objectives, focusing on succession planning, talent management, change management, performance management, employee relations, training, compensation, benefits, and culture. The CHRO provides strategic leadership, communicating HR needs and plans to the executive team, shareholders, and the board, and is part of the Executive Management Team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead HR and Training department managers and teams, providing guidance on staffing, performance, compensation, and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish, align, and implement HR efforts with the company's culture, mission, vision and core values.
  • Develop HR plans and strategies that support the achievement of business goals while balancing employee and company needs and interests.
  • Function as a strategic business advisor to the CEO & President, other executives, and senior management on organizational and management issues.
  • Collaborate with the executive team on management succession planning to align with company and subsidiary strategies and objectives.
  • Create comprehensive strategic recruiting, retention, and training plans to meet talent needs.
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive, competitive, and cost-effective compensation and benefits plans.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, training, career and leadership development, compensation, and benefits globally.
  • Oversee and resolve high-level or complex employee relations issues in partnership with executive managers.
  • Manage oversight all HR policies along with safeguarding compliance with government and industry labor regulations, affirmative action plan, and other government reporting requirements. Update policies as necessary while maintaining in-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance.
  • Collaborate with labor law attorneys.
  • Develop and manage the HR budget annually along with overseeing the development of the Training budget, ensuring both remain aligned with company goals and adhere to budget guidelines.
  • Provide guidance to hiring managers on assessments/testing as available and as developed going forward and work with employee trainers and consultants.
  • Serve on committees as a member of the Executive Management Team; Personnel/Salary Committee and Benefits Committee Chair; Member of the retirement/401(k) Plan.
  • Regularly deliver presentations at various employee, executive, and board meetings.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience

  • Ten plus years' experience in HR practices, with at least five years of executive/senior level HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Ten plus years' experience in Compensation, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Job Analysis, Regulations and Payroll.
  • Five plus years' experience working with HRIS platforms.
  • Five plus years' experience working with leadership teams on key organizational initiatives.
  • Applied knowledge of Training and Development concepts and strategies.
  • Experience in HR roles within financial institutions preferred.



Supervisory Experience

  • Ten plus years' supervisory and leadership experience.



Education/Skills

  • A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university or 15 plus years of direct senior level experience with proven leadership and communications skills in lieu of degree.
  • MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field preferred.
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or HRCI certifications (PHR or SPHR) preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavioral assessment tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
