Job Description

The College of Health Sciences - Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences - Medical Laboratory Science Program at the University of Missouri (MU) - Columbia invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track, Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor position with teaching and service responsibilities. Teaching responsibility includes appointment as the program's Clinical Coordinator.

About the Department/Program
The University of Missouri is launching its own standalone Medical Laboratory Science program, emphasizing teaching excellence and preparing graduates for success in the field. Previously accredited through an affiliation with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the program is now seeking independent accreditation by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, enhancing its ability to serve students and meet workforce demands. In addition to the traditional year of professional programming in this 3+1 program, this department provides a master's degree advancement program for credentialed medical laboratory professionals. The Medical Laboratory Science program is one of five undergraduate programs in the Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences Department, which values a collegial environment that supports the intellectual and professional growth of students and faculty. The Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences Department is one of eight departments within the College of Health Sciences.

Position Overview
Responsible for clinical coordination and teaching, as well as the development of curriculum, policies and procedures. Serves as the primary liaison between the program and affiliated clinical sites, ensuring seamless coordination of applied learning experiences, evaluating the effectiveness of clinical instruction and learning opportunities, assessing program outcomes and maintaining appropriate communications with the program director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain and facilitate the training and documentation of students in the MLS program (e.g., prerequisites, program entry requirements, immunizations, drug testing, background checks)
  • Coordinate student rotations with clinical affiliate liaisons and plan for and identify specific on-site student learning opportunities
  • Coordinate the delivery of clinical instruction to students in each rotation according to the MLS program curriculum
  • Facilitate effective clinical site learning experiences
  • Provide engaging and effective didactic instruction for all assigned courses
  • Engage in ongoing professional development
  • Participate in the development of curriculum, policy and procedures and assessment of program outcomes
  • Produce, assess and maintain student records to document their progress and accomplishments throughout each rotation
  • Assist with student recruitment
Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have earned at least a bachelor's degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The candidate must hold American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP or ASCPI) BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and at least one year of experience in the field of laboratory education. Candidates will demonstrate adequate knowledge and proficiency in their content areas and the ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level.

Candidates may be evaluated on graduate degree or progress toward graduate degree and /or outcomes of clinical laboratory science teaching.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the applicant. The anticipated salary range for this position is $78,000 - $104,000, dependent upon the rank of the position offered.
