Job Description

The University of Missouri School of Law is seeking one individual for the position of Thomas Fellow and Staff Attorney in the Veterans Clinic. The primary purpose of this position is to continue the work of the Veterans Clinic in assisting veterans and educating law students. The position will oversee rural outreach programs, help, supervise, and instruct Clinic students, handle case files, submit timely and complete documents to the government on behalf of veterans, and interface with Veterans Clinic stakeholders.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Overseeing an outreach program focusing on Missouri rural veterans
* Supervising the Clinic's pro bono referral program
* Supervising case files arising from the rural outreach and as assigned by the Director of the Clinic
* Submitting timely and complete documents to Veterans Administration (VA) and Department of Defense (DOD) for veterans
* Interfacing with Veterans Clinic stakeholders which include law school faculty and staff, members of the General Assembly, donors, students, and the veterans community
* Implementing Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs for attorneys
* Supervising case files with students as requested by the Director of the Clinic
* Working collaboratively with other staff in the Clinic

The Veterans Clinic is largely funded through outside donations. The longevity of the Clinic and this position are continually dependent on future grants and other fundraising initiatives

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flexibility of hours and remote work possible as approved by the Director of the Clinic

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
* Missouri law license (or ability to secure Missouri license promptly)
* Prior experience at a law school or law firm with veterans issues and handling veterans law cases
* Willingness to travel as required by the Director of the Clinic

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year based on skills, education, and experience
Grade: GGS 012
