Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products division is now hiring qualified professionals to consider for a Safety Specialist to support the Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, Oregon! The position, which reports to the Safety & Health Manager and has responsibility for assisting in development, implementation, and maintenance of the Company's Health and Safety programs for GP employees as well as contracted work. Our Team Our Wauna Mill is located on the Columbia River and is centrally located near the beach and mountains with several forms of outdoor recreational activities. The Wauna Mill is within an hour drive to Portland OR offering regional attractions and forms of entertainment. What You Will Do * Competing demands will require a strong process approach to work, strong organizational skills, teamwork and the ability to establish, communicate and adhere to priorities * Facilitate risk assessments and improvement plan development. Assist in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing corrective actions in order to reduce risk by utilizing the Risk Management System (RMS) tool. * Assist in the ongoing utilization of Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) programs for the area of responsibility in the mill. This involves leading hazard and risk assessment efforts and identifying/implementing corrective actions that appropriately reduce risk. * Assist in the development and implementation of core safety programs. The core elements include, but are not limited to: Lockout, Confined Space, Safety Management Systems, Process Safety Management, Emergency Preparedness, Excavation and Trenching, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, Safe My Life Permits. * Strive to create value for the mill through effective implementation of GP safety and health requirements and a thorough understanding of the mill's vision. * Prepare and conduct required regulatory and onboarding training and work with facility personnel to increase awareness of safety and health issues. * Perform ongoing evaluations/audits of safety and health programs for the area of responsibility in the mill * Facilitate incident analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions in order to prevent reoccurrence. * Respond to site personnel for assistance and support on safety and health-related issues. * Assists with the development of strategic plans to achieve short and long-term safety and health improvement goals. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Knowledge of federal/state safety regulatory requirements * 3 or more years' work experience in a heavy industrial environment which must include demonstrated safety-related responsibilities * Experience using and applying effective Safety Management Systems * Experience developing and managing regulatory compliance programs * Knowledge of occupational safety management and ability to apply and achieve demonstrated results What Will Put You Ahead * Experience in the paper machine or converting operations. * Associate's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health Science, or other technical field * Safety experience in heavy manufacturing, chemical processes and/or Pulp & Paper * Demonstrated experience in Human Organizational Performance (HOP) * Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) * Previous Supervisory Experience At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
