Job Summary

Leads and supervises the daily performance of assigned Engineering Staff. Assigns preventative maintenance and urgent, corrective and routine repairs on assigned equipment or assigned Hospital Zone or area. Ensures all work performed by assigned staff is completed in a timely manner and satisfactory level of quality. Works with assigned staff to grow them to achieve personal and the department goals. Keeps records on assigned PM's and other equipment as well as daily work request. Assists in matters of performance reviews and discipline. Assist in maintaining an effective organization, administering monetary controls, budget development, planning, training of personnel in their general and specific duties, safety and effective management. Maintains time and production records. Manages repair/maintenance and capital projects.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the requisitioned, corrective, emergency and preventative maintenance of buildings, equipment and off-site facilities associated within the hospital. Performs requisitioned, corrective, emergency and preventative maintenance of assigned systems and building structures as required. Responsible for inspecting, calibrating, adjusting, lubricating and repairing or replacing components as necessary. Maintains records of PM programs and maintenance repairs.

  • Reports daily to the Engineering Manager as to the general condition of hospital facilities and the general progress of work being accomplished. Interprets hospital policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Reviews maintenance requests and schedules work tasks for Engineering staff. This includes requisitioned, PM, corrective emergency maintenance. Ensures that work sites are left clean and that tools are returned to their proper area. Makes periodic inspections, noting general condition and keeps the Plant Operations Manager informed as to the needs and/or changes required to keep the hospital in safe, well-maintained condition. Maintains assigned records to ensure compliance with state, federal and Joint Commission regulations.

  • Orders selected stock items and supplies equipment parts so as to maintain maximum efficiency levels at all times according to established procedures. Coordinates the training of personnel in the operation and repair of equipment and facility(s).

  • Assumes responsibilities for the Engineering Department in the event of absence, illness or vacation of the Engineering Manager. Provides direction to assigned personnel.

  • Responds to emergency calls and assist qualified technicians and other trained personnel on ETO gas Med Gas/Vacuum leaks, Power outages, HVAC outages, Plumbing, fire response, etc. Participates in emergency call back system.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Post high school education up to 18 months. Technical College or Certificate Program

  • Experience - Three (3) years leadership and general maintenance experience of buildings and/or equipment.

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, ten (10) years of experience with similar building systems and equipment can be substituted for the minimal education requirements above.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • If assigned supervision of Electrical trade, a minimum of a journeyman's license is required.

  • Valid Driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of maintenance related to type of staff assigned under supervision.

  • Basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Mathematical skills

  • Able to design, maintain and work in accordance with National and City Codes and other safety codes, which apply, to hospitals.
