Job Title: COMSEC Specialist
Location:Washington, DC (Onsite)
Clearance Requirement:Active TS/SCI Clearance Required

We are seeking a COMSEC Specialist to support our Department of State project in Washington, DC.The COMSEC Specialistwill be responsible for managing, securing, and distributing Communications Security (COMSEC) materials and equipment in compliance with NSA policies. This role requires expertise in cryptographic key management, secure device programming, and classified communications procedures.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Maintain accurate records of COMSEC inventory and submit required accounting reports per NSA and government policies.
  • Administer initial briefings and debriefingsto individual users and maintain associated documentation.
  • Complete required NSA COMSEC trainingwithin designated performance timelines.
  • Program and distribute COMSEC devices, including but not limited to:


    • Secure Telephone Equipment (STE)
    • Sectera vIPer Universal Secure Phone
    • Network encryptor solutions (TACLANEs)


  • Order, receive, load, and manage COMSEC keying materials using devices such as:


    • Key Management Infrastructure (KMI)
    • Simple Key Loader (SKL)


  • Ensure compliance with NSA policiesfor all COMSEC Element accounts.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to COMSEC equipment holders, documenting activities within the DSS Service Support system.
  • Evaluate and recommend new COMSEC equipment and secure fax machines for operational use.
  • Maintain an operational stock of COMSEC equipmentfor emergency replacements and repairs.
  • Assist in interoperability testingand support the procurement of new COMSEC equipment.
  • Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)for COMSEC operations.
  • Conduct re-keying of all circuitsas required.
  • Ensure proper storage, management, and accountabilityof COMSEC materials within KMI.
  • Maintain COMSEC access listsfor designated Controlled/Closed Areas.
  • Prepare, review, and submit COMSEC account correspondence, messages, and reportspromptly and accurately.
  • Conduct periodic security clearance spot checksto ensure compliance.
  • Develop and conduct COMSEC training programsfor personnel.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degreein Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related technical field.


    • Four (4) additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.


  • 5+ years of experiencewith COMSEC policies and procedures.
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification required.
  • Strong understanding of NSA COMSEC regulations, key management, and cryptographic operations.
  • Hands-on experience with KMI, SKL, TACLANE, STE, and Sectera vIPer devices.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with federal security policies and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience supporting federal agencies or working in government contracting.
  • Familiarity with encryption protocols, classified communications, and secure network infrastructures.
