SUMMARY The Geomatics Engineer provides technical expertise in processing, analysis, modeling, and review of geospatial data. Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves complex issues by leveraging fundamental understanding and experience in lidar, remote sensing, and GIS. Supports the automation and continuous improvement of production and quality control processes utilizing data from various sensor modalities including airborne topographic and mobile lidar, and aerial imagery. Performs production work and quality control of data and derivative products as required. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
- Provides technical expertise in processing and analysis of geospatial data from airborne topographic, mobile and terrestrial lidar, aerial imagery to produce raster, vector, and other derivative products including point clouds, 3D models, meshes, databases among others as project deliverables.
- Troubleshoots issues related to the processing of geospatial data to support production activities. Identifies and resolves complex issues that fall outside standard operational procedures.
- Supports the development, automation, and continuous improvement of processes and workflows; implements methods and algorithms for lidar, imagery, vector mapping, and GIS production pipelines and quality control.
- Conducts targeted functionality reviews of software, tools, services, and frameworks for the processing and analysis of geospatial data.
- Aids project teams in the adoption and efficient use of geospatial data processing techniques within the production workflow.
- Continually seek state-of-the-art methods and technologies to enhance production processes, lower costs, and improve product quality as part of Sanborn's commitment to continuous improvement.
- Aids in providing support to project managers in technical matters with clients and subcontractors.
- Supports the development and revision of standard operational and working practices to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Supports the review of the technical aspects of lidar, imagery, vector mapping, and GIS projects, including compliance with quality/specifications as needed.
- Performs complex geospatial data processing to ensure customer calls are addressed and final products meet expectations.
- Reviews 3rd party data and provides documented feedback on issues and areas of concern.
- Documents workflows, processes, methods, algorithms, resources across system phases through analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.
- Aids in providing support to Sales and Proposals staff as required for technical writing, presentations, cost estimates, and project planning.
- Follows the company's Quality Management System (QMS) to assure quality and provide ISO training to employees.

- Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Geospatial Science, Geography, Engineering, or a related field. Graduate level degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in geospatial data processing and analysis including airborne topographic lidar, aerial.
- Advanced understanding of fundamental lidar, remote sensing, and GIS principles.
- Extensive experience in geospatial data processing, analysis, and modeling.
- Proficiency in utilizing and working knowledge of COTS and open-source geospatial software tools and libraries for lidar, remote sensing, and GIS applications like (TerraSolid, LP360, LASTools, CloudCompare, Global Mapper, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, GeoCue, eCognition, GRASS, FUSION, PDAL, laspy, GDAL, rasterio, etc.).
- Programming/scripting experience with Python and preferably other common programming languages (R/C++/JavaScript) for geospatial data processing.
- Familiarity with common machine learning models used in the geospatial domain for feature extraction, segmentation and semantic segmentation from imagery and lidar data.
Position Location: Colorado Springs, CO. In-Office with hybrid potential.
