Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Citywide Focus Kujichagulia Program Director, the incumbent provides continuous, comprehensive mental health services including crisis intervention, outreach, therapy and case management to a caseload of severely mentally ill adults who are high users of psychiatric mental health services, often with concurrent substance abuse and/or health problems. The Kujichagulia team focuses on African American clients. Assesses presenting problems, obtains psychosocial history, conducts mental status examination and diagnoses using the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-IV); participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team; act as liaison to inpatient units and other service providers to facilitate referrals and service/treatment; maintains client records according to California, City and County requirements; maintains a master-level requirements; attends staff meetings and participates in training session, other duties assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $37.56 - $50.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • CSW I: Masters degree in social work, psychology, or counseling or related field from an accredited school of social work or equivalent experience/training and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • CSW II. A Master's degree in social work, psychology or counseling from an accredited school of social work and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker, as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting
  • Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
  • A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance.
  • An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients

Preferred Qualifications

Prior related UC experience
Case Management experience
CSW I: Registration with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)
CSW II: Eligible to test for licensure with the Board of Behavioral Science as An Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Intern Marriage Family Therapist (IMFT).
Two years working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations
One year experience working with African American clients
One year experience doing community based case management and the ability to do outreach including to SRO hotels
