Job Summary

Performs routine duties associated with animal care in research setting at Georgia Tech. Prepares food and feeds animals, cleans caging and housing accessories, maintains sanitary conditions throughout facility, and observes and records environmental conditions, animal health and behavior.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1: Feeds and cleans animal enclosures/housing systems.

Job Duty 2: Observes and monitors animals for signs of illness, trauma or social instability.

Job Duty 3: Monitors environmental conditions in animal housing rooms and inspects the condition of facilities and equipment for cleanliness and proper operation.

Job Duty 4: Maintains daily records pertaining to animal care, environmental data and facility cleanliness/maintenance.

Job Duty 5: Cleans and sanitizes facility spaces and rooms.

Job Duty 6: Participates in staff meetings and other activities as directed.

Job Duty 7: Compliance with standards and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent AND one year of animal husbandry/care experience OR two years of animal husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility OR certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT). LAT and LATG certifications and additional education can fulfill requirements on a per case basis. The ability to lift 50 pounds and push/pull heavy loads. Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record. Applicants must NOT own rodents at home NOR reptiles that consume rodents.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum one year of experience in a laboratory animal facility OR AALAS certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) OR Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) OR Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG). Experience with aquatic animal husbandry and spawning.
