As we continue to grow and scale, we are seeking a skilled Senior Director of Finance to lead financial strategy and operations for our Commercial Manufacturing & Supply Chain (CMSC) function within our Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Manufacturing Operations (BSMO) organization. As a key leader in our Finance function, the Senior Director of CMSC Finance will play a critical role in shaping financial strategy, supporting strategic decision-making and driving cost efficiencies for Vertex's commercial manufacturing and supply chain operations. This individual will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to optimize performance, mitigate risks, and enhance financial processes in a fast-moving, innovation-driven environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Finance Business Partners, ensuring alignment across functions while identifying opportunities to invest strategically, optimize costs and mitigate risks, including supporting long term portfolio prioritization decision making.
- Partner with senior leadership in Commercial Manufacturing & Supply Chain to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, scenario modeling and long-term planning for CMSC, providing insightful and influential forward-looking direction to ensure data-driven decision-making.
- Provide executive-level insights for key business decisions, including cost optimization, capital investments, and financial risk management.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Cost Accounting and Inventory Finance to develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that drive operational efficiencies.
- Support supplier negotiations and production planning by collaborating with External Manufacturing and Strategic Sourcing teams.
- Partner with Supply Chain leaders to drive excellence and best practices in the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, ensuring seamless alignment between demand forecasts, supply chain capabilities, and financial targets to optimize decision-making and resource allocation.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for manufacturing and supply chain finance.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal controls, accounting policies (GAAP/IFRS), and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous process improvement, leveraging automation, technology, and financial best practices to support the company's expansion into new therapeutic areas and global markets.
- Builds and manages a high-performing CMSC Finance team that meets increasing needs and requirements across the business and helps drive the overall organization forward.
- Develops and coaches team members to encourage growth and new opportunities and creates an atmosphere of inclusivity across the team.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in leading manufacturing and technical operations finance teams ideally for businesses with both external contract manufacturing networks and internal manufacturing facilities
- Ability to lead and drive change in an evolving business environment, coordinating processes involving large numbers of people, complex systems, and tight deadlines to deliver innovative solutions.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing, and supply chain operations, enabling quick and effective decision-making.
- Expertise in financial modeling, ERP systems (Oracle preferred), cost accounting and supply chain analytics.
- Proven experience managing finance teams, driving financial performance and influencing executive decision-making.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance or Accounting.
- MBA and CPA a plus.
- Typically requires 15 years of relevant experience in a finance managerial role demonstrating strong technical and analytical skills and a track record of success working in a team-based environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Global pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience required.
