The Program Manager for Community Outreach and Engagement will oversee planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of cancer control engagement, outreach and education activities across the UVA Cancer Center's catchment area. Programs and activities will span across prevention, cancer risk factors, early detection and survivorship. Candidates should have significant program management experience and a deep understanding and ability to connect and work with community partners. This position will work closely with internal and external partners to develop, implement, and evaluate cancer related projects and maintain key stakeholder relationships. Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, including community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders. Attend and represent the Cancer Center at community and partner meetings to discuss ongoing and prospective outreach initiatives. Lead the coordination and logistics for Community Outreach and Engagement activities, including Cancer Center-hosted events and community engagements. Responsibilities include event planning, staffing, messaging development, and delivering presentations. Collaborate with the COE team to create and refine educational materials such as presentations, lesson plans, event booth activities, literature, and giveaways for outreach and educational events. Develop a comprehensive community outreach plan to increase awareness and engagement across diverse communities. Tailor strategies to target different populations with culturally appropriate and relevant content. Lead the development and implementation of systems and processes for the recruitment, tracking, planning, and execution of cancer education projects. Oversee the creation and management of project work plans and budgets, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of all project milestones. Regularly assess and adjust resources to meet short-term and long-term project needs. Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to timelines and deliverables. Continuously assess the effectiveness of community outreach strategies and suggest improvements based on feedback and data analysis. Implement effective communication and change management strategies to keep stakeholders informed on program progress and any adjustments required. Supervise and support a team of outreach specialist, students and volunteers. Provide leadership through mentoring, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment by promoting open communication, problem-solving, and alignment with project goals. Delegate tasks appropriately to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of outreach and education initiatives.
Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: At least four years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is typically possessed. Preferred Qualifications Education: Master's degree in public health, education, or related field Experience:
Proven experience in program or project management, with a focus on community outreach, engagement, and education. Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of community stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership experience with teams and cross-functional collaboration. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
