Description

If you've spent any time in southeast Wisconsin, you've probably been hearing a lot about the City of West Allis: Milwaukee County's second-largest city has a lot going on and much more to come.

That's why now is the time for you to put that law degree to good use - make a positive impact on our community as an Assistant City Attorney. Every day, we get an opportunity to tackle interesting, unique, and important issues that will impact the community. We will not stifle your innovation and creativity; we embrace it. This is not a place where you just punch the clock and settle for the status quo. We're looking for a lawyer who enjoys problem-solving and is excited to learn.

As for the work itself, tell us what you'd like to do. The City Attorney's Office handles a wide variety of topics, including civil litigation, employment law, tax assessments, elections, real estate, municipal finance, collections, claims, prosecution, public records/open meetings, ordinance drafting, contracts, insurance and risk management, and much more. You could be a specialist looking to broaden your skillset or a generalist looking to grow through new experiences. If you are willing to take on new areas of law and won't shy away from a challenge, we're looking for you.

This position is planned to be full-time, but we may be able to accommodate part-time. Some perks of working for the City include regular work hours, no billable hours, no chasing down clients or payments, and dedicating your time to a single client. Annual full-time pay is $72,716.80-$148,241.60, depending on qualifications and experience. We have great standard benefits like free dental, annual health deductibles of $750 for a family, and access to QuadMed (if you haven't heard of this, look it up. They are awesome). We even have flexible scheduling if the 5-day work week is not your thing, like 4/10 or 9/80, plus remote options.

New lawyers can jumpstart their career with immediate exposure to things that most first-year associates won't see for years. Experienced private lawyers can ditch the billable hours and make that switch to public service that they've been thinking about. And current municipal lawyers can take their skills to the next level here. There is no harm in applying. Go for it!
