What you'll do
Viasat's Tactical Communications Solutions (TCS) unit is seeking a driven Solutions Engineer to take part in our mission of connecting defense by showcasing our advanced network capabilities, low observable transports, Hybrid Cloud access and AI/ML driven network operations for high capacity, resilient, and intuitive networks. The Solutions Engineer will understand customer needs, apply Viasat and 3rd party technology into the customer architecture, demonstrate capabilities, and take part in technical customer briefings and support capture / business development / proposal activities.
The day-to-day
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall technical responsibility for customer solution engineer through leadership, agile planning, systems engineering approach, and execution of contract deliverables while identifying and mitigating risks, and interfacing with program customers.
- Convey needs of the customer / client to business development, engineering and program staff. Communicate benefits of new technology and novel integration to the clients.
- Display proactive and flexible project-oriented dedication, with ability to both delegate to engineering staff as well as drive down into detail, assisting in areas of weakness.
- Lead the performance measurement and improvement of our customer's experience on the Viasat Government Segment.
- Serve as the primary technical interface to the customer(s) representing the entire program team and Viasat as a whole.
- Apply a collaborative/consultative working and leadership style, relying on common sense and personal competence for persuasion and consensus building.
- Work with business area management in assessing market/product offerings and opportunities, representing overarching engineering viewpoint of the ability of the business area to execute to derived cost/schedule market requirements. Participate in technical feasibility decisions regarding
What you'll need
- 10+ years' experience in Networking appliance and services delivering integrated products and software development
- Experience participating in multi-disciplined engineering execution with team over diverse geographical locations
- Proven ability to contribute to proposal efforts and participate in ongoing business development
- Demonstrated understanding and experience contributing across product life cycle
- Experience with requirements management and product management toolsets (Jenkins, Github, Jira, PLM software) or DoD equivalent
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot complex tactical networks in a variety of configurations
- Ability to coordinate, plan and execute customer facing demonstrations, either as stand alone or as part of a larger architecture
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience
- US Citizenship
- DoD US Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS SCI
What will help you on the job
- In depth knowledge of USAF / SOCOM systems, acquisition, technical roadmaps
- MS in Engineering (EE, CE, CS)
- SD-WAN / SD-LAN experience with focus on network function virtualization (NFV), network slicing, and network orchestration.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge / experience
- Knowledge of low-level OS and CPU features such as multi-threading, virtualization, synchronization and memory management on Linux or Linux-like Operating Systems
- Prior experience working with container technology such as Docker/Kubernetes
- Knowledge/Experience of cloud platforms: Amazon, Openstack, Microsoft's Azure, Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge/Experience of encryption products / processes / architectures
- Knowledge/Experience of tactical datalink products / processes / architectures
- DoD US TS/SCI Clearance
Salary range
$135,000.00 - $213,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $168,000.00- $252,000.00/ annually
