Hornblower is seeking a temporary HR Administrative Assistant for our Ferries & Transportation operation based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

Seeking eager and motivated candidate to provide administrative support to ensure smooth and effective HR operations. This is a shared service role for Hornblower Ferries & Transportation division. This person will be detail-oriented, adaptable, willing to learn, and efficient. Position is from April - October 2025, based out of Brooklyn Navy Yard. Salary is $20/hour, 30 hours/week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Provide administrative support to HR team for Ferries & Transportation.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with crew members and port leadership.
  • Prepare new hire folders for orientation. Assist with vessel IT set-up; attendance record and other logistics needed for orientation.
  • Prepare uniforms, ID cards and name badges for orientation.
  • Provide general support to employees as it relates to HRIS access, password resets and general information.
  • Follow up with employees regarding missing / expired documents.
  • Prepare monthly birthday and anniversary notifications and assist with monthly crew events.
  • Maintain all licensing and credentials for mariner and safety sensitive positions; tracks for expirations and renewal. Verify with corresponding agency.
  • Additional job duties and projects as assigned.


                  Requirements & Qualifications:



                  • HS Diploma or Equivalent; Some college preferred.
                  • Some prior administrative experience; completed HR internship a plus.
                  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
                  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility and willingness to learn.
                  • Self-starter that can take initiative on variety of tasks and projects.
                  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and focus.
                  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
                  • Ability to protect the confidentiality and privacy of others in addition to company documents and records when privy to sensitive information.
                  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and discretion.
                  • Ability to effectively prioritize, organize and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
                  • Customer-centric approach to building crew relationships.
