Job Description

Position Summary

The Business Asset and Capitalized Software Manager (BACSM) manages the efforts of assessing the capitalization qualification of software development, SaaS consulting for implementation and other business assets (physical, software development and intangibles). This includes managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of assessing what expenses qualify for capitalization (both physical and software).The position works with departments across the organization to evaluate which contracts and SOW's qualify for capitalization and assists accounts payable with the coding of related supplier invoices for the proper accounting treatment. Related to this area is managing and tracking expenses related to construction projects and software development projects through the various phases of development and implementation.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Subject Matter Expert on Capitalization Labor qualifications for both internally developed software and for implementing Third Party software and FASB's guidance and application of ASC 350-40 (Intangibles - Goodwill and Other - Internal-Use Software)

  • Accounting for and managing Business Assets (BA), intangible assets and capitalized software

  • Assisting with Cost Segregation studies on new construction and remodels

  • Decisioning and Coding supplier invoices for capitalization

  • Preparing or reviewing BA subledger reconciliations and roll-forwards

  • Familiar with FASB's guidance and application of ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) to oversee the accounting for customer contracts and the billing cycles for the Payments, Audit and Data divisions.

  • Reviewing customer contracts to determine the transaction price, identifying performance obligations, allocating transaction price and recognizing revenue as the performance obligation is satisfied.

  • Assisting with the design and implementation of Customer Contract module as part of the ERP software

  • Maintaining up-to-date records and documentation to support billing updates, backdated rate changes, charge-offs to receivables and reserves

  • Maintaining records and documentation to support internal and external audits and working with tax accountants for tax depreciation schedules and providing support and documentation for R&D credits related to capitalized software

  • Other Duties as Assigned

Experience & Education

The successful candidate will possess Capitalization qualification experience and a high level attention to detail, strong Financial Systems, analytical and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting is required. Related experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, in a fast-paced organization, with previous accounting and capitalization qualification experience.

  • Managed Business Asset process in an ERP software (preferably Workday, but not required)

  • Experience with regulatory reporting in the finance industry, preferred

  • Experience and strong understanding of internal controls

Skills & Abilities Required

  • Proven interpersonal and relational skills; ability to work well in a small, collaborative team, as well as communicating and interacting with a larger group, including executive management.

  • Strong research and analytical skills related to accounting concepts and legal contracts.

  • Strong research and analytical skills and understanding of capitalization and depreciation concepts.

  • Independent worker and analytical thinker with ability to conduct research, data analysis and resolve complex problems

  • Intermediate skills in Excel; proficient in Word, PowerPoint.

  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Must be able to receive and follow instructions given by management, develop solutions to unique problems, and handle all data with security, caution, and care.
