PLANNING MANAGER

Oversees activities related to the purchase of material, material control, inventory control, shipping/receiving and stores functions. Manages the activities of the team and is responsible for staffing decisions, training and development, and performance management of the staff. Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures and material control systems. Ensures materials are ordered and in stock to meet company requirements, while maintaining acceptable inventory levels. Develops material schedules and coordinates the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production and engineering. Reviews and plans requirements for purchasing materials. May prepare material requirement plans using enterprise resource planning systems. May assist with the establishment and maintenance of the production control system. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Planning:



  • Forecasting material requirements based on production schedules and demand forecasts.
  • Developing and maintaining material requirements planning (MRP) systems.
  • Managing inventory levels to optimize stock and minimize waste.
  • Ensuring timely availability of materials to meet production deadlines.
  • Sourcing and evaluating potential suppliers.
  • Negotiating contracts and pricing agreements with vendors.
  • Managing supplier relationships and performance.
  • Ensuring quality and compliance of purchased materials.
  • Mitigating supply chain risks.
  • Monitoring and analyzing market trends and supply chain disruptions.
  • Implementing strategies to improve supply chain efficiency and resilience.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as engineering and production, to ensure alignment.
  • Risk management of the supply chain.
  • Finding ways to reduce the cost of materials.
  • Analyzing spending and finding areas of improvement.



Essential Skills:



  • Understanding of electronic components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to secure favorable contracts and pricing agreements.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data and generating reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems and other relevant software.
  • A deep understanding of supply chain principles and best practices.
