Job Summary

In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year, the History Department invites a pool of qualified persons interested in the supervision of secondary teacher candidates in History and Social Science education. Supervisors are needed in both Central Illinois and the Chicagoland area.

Applications are accepted continuously for part-time, non-tenure-track positions and reviewed as vacancies become available.

This position involves mentoring teacher candidates in their student teaching internships. The university supervisor is a liaison between ISU and the school district personnel, primarily the cooperating teacher. The supervisor is responsible for observing the student teacher on-site and providing a formal assessment of the teacher candidate's teaching experience. This requires multiple on-site observations with brief post-conference meetings and a small number of visits to Illinois State University in Normal, IL during the academic year. In addition to regular online communication throughout the semester, supervisors assess teacher candidates' online reflections and collaborate with the Cooperating Teacher and ISU faculty in assessing the professional growth and final grade for teacher candidates.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$252 per month per student supervised plus reimbursement for mileage.


Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in teaching or relevant academic field.
2. At least three years of history and/or social science classroom teaching experience in a middle school or high school classroom and/or related professional experience.
3. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
