Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Director to lead and manage the engineering team for our growing Architectural Coatings business. The Engineering Director will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and optimization of engineering solutions that enhance our product manufacturing processes, packaging technologies, and operational efficiency. This role is responsible for overseeing process improvements, plant engineering, equipment maintenance, and new technology implementation to drive efficiency, sustainability, and product quality. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the CPG industry, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Lead and manage the engineering team across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring efficient production processes and overseeing the execution of all engineering projects.
  • Oversee plant maintenance programs to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to manage the storage, handling, and efficient use of raw materials such as pigments, resins, and solvents, reducing inventory waste and costs.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and company policies, including OSHA and EPA, implementing safety programs and sustainable production practices to minimize environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with R&D and production teams to enhance product formulations and manufacturing techniques.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise to resolve production challenges, ensuring smooth manufacturing operations and minimal disruptions.
  • Lead capital investment projects, including plant expansions, new equipment installations, and facility upgrades.
  • Drive the recruitment, training, and professional development of engineering talent to ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and capabilities.
  • Set clear objectives and performance targets for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with company goals and operational priorities.

Engineering Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement engineering strategies to optimize production lines, improve product quality, and enhance cost efficiency.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies that meet customer demands and industry standards.
  • Manage the lifecycle of engineering projects from concept to implementation, ensuring timely delivery, within budget, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify and implement sustainable manufacturing practices, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly processes.
  • Evaluate and integrate Industry 4.0 technologies, such as automation, IoT, and AI-driven process controls.

Innovation & Process Improvement

  • Identify and drive innovative solutions to improve product packaging, production efficiency, sustainability, and overall quality.
  • Lead efforts to streamline manufacturing processes, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency across production lines.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in the CPG industry, incorporating relevant advancements into the company's engineering practices.
  • Lead capital investment projects, including plant expansions, new equipment installations, and facility upgrades.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all engineering projects meet industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Promote a safety-first culture across all engineering and production activities, ensuring adherence to workplace safety protocols.

Budgeting & Resource Management

  • Manage the engineering and corporate capital budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet project needs while staying within financial constraints.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of necessary equipment, machinery, and technologies to ensure optimal production performance.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field. Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in a paint, coatings, chemicals, or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex engineering projects in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Expertise in manufacturing technologies, packaging engineering, automation, and process improvement techniques (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and safety standards in the CPG industry.
  • Experience with LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proven track record in CAPEX project management and plant modernization.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
