Position Summary:

The Design Engineer II will be responsible for designing new ammunition products from concept to production. The position will support continued design improvements to existing product lines. The Design Engineer II works both independently and in a team environment, frequently initiating collaboration with other departments including Marketing, Project Management and Operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Creates innovative ammunition design solutions in partnership with SIG firearm, optics, drone, & robotics.
  • Manages multiple design projects in a fast-paced development cycle.
  • Takes new product concepts through all aspects of the product development cycle ultimately resulting in a producible and innovative product.
  • Interfaces with Marketing and customers to understand and document development requirements encompassing all trade channels of the business (i.e., commercial, law enforcement, international, and military).
  • Provides technical support for military, law enforcement, and international proposals.
  • Constructs design models in 3D CAD, preferably using SolidWorks.
  • Creates design drawings, supervise drafting activities, review, and approve engineering drawings.
  • Maintains standards for technical drawings, internal specifications, and related engineering documentation.
  • Coordinates prototype build, test, and ballistic evaluation.
  • Works with Purchasing to select manufacturing technologies and vendors.
  • Identifies Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Supports Sales and Agency Customers by troubleshooting and resolving field issues.
  • Makes improvements of existing products. Investigate and solve problems in cooperation with Quality and Operations departments.
  • Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Participates in and sustains 5S
  • Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • Must be able to travel.

Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering discipline required.
  • 5 years of related design experience with small or medium caliber ammunition/ordnance is strongly preferred.
  • 3 years minimum experience with defense contracts and product development desired.
  • Passion for ammunition reloading, shooting, and/or hunting highly desired.
  • Microsoft Office and 3D CAD modeling experience required; SolidWorks, MATLAB & LabVIEW preferred.
  • Overall, must be able to work in a team, lead, plan, and execute.
  • Quality of work must be very high.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required. Organization of documentation and record keeping shall be to a high standard.
  • Firearm and sports optics experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be


Working Conditions:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
