SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Director, IT Strategy and Planning partners with the CIO and IT Leadership in creating technology vision and direction for the enterprise. The position assists the CIO in the development and execution of strategic IT planning, organizational and operating model development and performance management. This role is a change agent and is instrumental in shaping a positive and collaborative IT culture as well as transforming IT to become a business outcome driven organization. This position reports to the CIO and is on the IT Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

  • IT Strategy Management, responsible for driving focus and prioritization within the IT organization through establishing strategic planning and governance principles and processes.
  • IT Governance includes establishing, running and continuously improving IT governance frameworks to ensure alignment with our business objectives. This could include authoring and facilitating the creation of policies, methodologies, procedures and standards; organizing and facilitating committee meetings and driving actions.
  • Monitors and reports on performance of the IT function. This role will create fit for purpose reports and scorecards to guide improvement efforts and communicate with external stakeholder. This will include ensuring the appropriate cadence and delivery of reports to all stakeholders.
  • Portfolio and Program Management Leader oversees the identification, justification, prioritization, resourcing and reporting of the IT Portfolio. This role collaborates and provides input to business cases, cost and effort estimates and overall alignment to business goals and objectives. This also includes managing high impact, enterprise wide digital transformation initiatives.
  • Performing risk and issue management activities such as identifying, assessing and resolving or mitigating issues and risks associated with IT operations and projects. This role will facilitate associated meetings to review and track status as well as develop and distribute related reporting.
  • Manage relationships with our key suppliers by understanding contracts and obligations, reviewing and approving contract changes, new statements of work and invoices. Collaborate with suppliers to improve performance and ensure the delivery of intended business value.
  • May take an active role in budget planning, technology and business assessments, research, due diligence, merger and acquisition integration and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IT Strategies that align with business objectives
  • Proven track record managing large scale IT projects to deliver intended outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining governance activities that ensure compliance, alignment and efficient use of resources.
  • Solid understanding of current technologies and how they can be leveraged to meet business goals
  • Experience leading process improvement projects.
  • Experience in negotiating and managing relationships with technology and service vendors to ensure best value and service.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams through complex projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in healthcare or medical device industry.
  • Experience in international business environments.
  • Scrum/Agile Certification

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong business acumen and proficient understanding of IT in the Life Science space including the ability to make decisions linked to the organization's strategy.
  • Ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with IT operations and projects.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, especially the ability to effectively impart complex or technical subjects to diverse audiences including executives.
  • General understanding of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, COBIT and NIST.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team, engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to focus on desired results to deliver customer and user experience and business outcomes.
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP/SCOPE:

  • Reports to the CIO and has global responsibility
  • Daily interaction with IT leadership team and staff
  • Regular interaction with senior and executive leadership teams
  • Regularly deals with vendors and technology leaders in other companies
