Job Summary

Mobile Recreation Leader

This position is responsible for supporting the mobile recreation program held at various park sites throughout Kirkland. Must be able to work as a team with other assigned staff and also independently with little supervision. Will support the daily operations and activities, which include leading organized games, arts & crafts, and special events. Develops positive, supportive relationships with participants, parents, the public and other department staff. Conducts oneself in a professional manner that represents the City well; be involved and engaged in program & activities with the participants; use promotional materials that promote the program and activities.

The successful candidate must be available to begin work Tuesday and Thursday between 1:00-5:00 and Friday's from 9:00-3:00. Program will start the week of June 23rd and conclude the week of Aug 15th. The position has a variable hour work schedule, up to 17 hours per week. Schedule is Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Set-up and tear down of program equipment and supplies.
    • Support programs and activities.
    • Work with youth between ages 4-12 in a positive manner.
    • Interact professionally with participants and other employees.
    • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
    • Responsible for inventory and tracking of equipment and supplies.
    • Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements.
    • Work effectively as a team.
    • Physically set up and tear-down program equipment.
    • Represent the City in a positive and professional manner; use good judgment and be a good role model for youth.
    • Take initiative and possess strong work ethic.
    • Work cohesively with other team members.
    • Perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    • Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

Qualifications

  • One-year experience working with youth and leading youth activities and programs preferred.

Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:

  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days.
  • Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to, reference checks and a criminal background check.


Other

Environmental Conditions/Physical Effort: Work is primarily performed outside at local parks in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Must be able to lift/carry at least 40lbs.
