JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Evidence-to-Impact Collaborative, housed within the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center and supported by the College of Health and Human Development and the Social Science Research Institute at The Pennsylvania State University, invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor position. The team seeks a professional with expertise in data-driven research, science communication, and policy engagement.

Competitive candidates will have extensive experience in research project management, grant development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in evidence-based policymaking, computational data analysis, and research translation. Additionally, candidates should have a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, leading research projects, and applying innovative data visualization and machine learning techniques to policy-relevant research.

Areas of interest include:

  • Evidence-based policymaking

  • Research on improving the use of scientific evidence for decision-making

  • Science communication for policy audiences

  • Computational analysis and AI-driven research methodologies

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in transdisciplinary research collaborations, speech and language data analysis, and the application of computational methodologies to social science and public health research. Successful applicants should demonstrate:

  • A clear research agenda aligned with the mission of the Evidence-to-Impact Collaborative

  • A strong publication record

  • Experience managing research projects and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams

  • The capacity to support and lead grant proposals

  • Advanced technical proficiencies, including Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and machine learning tools

An earned Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Computational Social Science, or a related discipline) and demonstrated scholarly accomplishments are required.

Candidates should also have experience in mentoring students, developing innovative research methodologies, and contributing to collaborative academic initiatives.

The vision of the EIC is to enhance how research evidence and data are used in decision-making processes to create a positive impact and improve lives. Our team accomplishes this vision through transdisciplinary collaborations, generation and dissemination of research evidence to policymakers, and computationally intensive economic evaluations of social programs. The EIC has a wide portfolio of funding, including foundations, NSF, NIH, and state-level government grants.

Review of applications and nominations will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

This is a term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
