Summary of role We are seeking a seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Field Medical Affairs Excellence to lead this function within Medical Affairs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing the execution of field medical plans and the seamless implementation of strategy into field activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational excellence. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional operational management skills within oncology and/or neurology. The Director will manage a team of direct reports responsible for optimizing field processes, driving performance, and ensuring effective coordination across cross-functional teams. Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and execute the vision and strategy for field medical excellence operations, ensuring alignment with the overall objectives of the field medical affairs function and the broader organizational goals.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to field medical teams, fostering a culture of operational excellence, efficiency, and continuous improvements.
- Serve as an integral member of the team contributing to strategic planning, decision-making, and the overall direction of field medical activities.
Management and Team Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of direct reports responsible for field medical operations, ensuring a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Provide strategic guidance and direction to team members, ensuring the successful execution of field plans, alignment with organizational priorities, and adherence to compliance standards.
- Foster professional development and growth within the team, supporting the development of leadership capabilities and operational expertise.
Operational Excellence:
- Oversee the implementation of field strategies and coordination of territory field plans, ensuring efficient and effective execution of field medical activities in alignment with company objectives.
- Optimize field processes and systems to drive performance, improve efficiency, and ensure high-quality execution of field initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of field teams, establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and identify areas of improvement.
- Drive the evolution and development of field medical operational excellence through the creation of initiatives, project planning, KOL documentation, systems/platforms for insight gathering and monitoring tools. (examples include MSL KOL documentation platform, insight gathering platform, develop operational excellence training for the field medical Teams)
- Spearhead the Field Medical excellence initiatives by evaluation of processes, identifies target areas for improvement, and lead solution development and implementation
- Coordinate and prepare logistics for meetings with internal teams, including tracking and follow up on actions from these meetings and other projects
Congress Strategy & Execution:
- Lead medical affairs strategy and execution at key congresses that align with the Lantheus strategic goals and therapeutic areas.
- Lead a cross functional team to develop objectives for each congress, such as brand visibility, scientific exchange, or key opinion leader engagement.
- Complete the strategy development on an annual basis.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across various departments, including Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Legal teams to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of field activities with broader organizational initiatives.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to ensure that field medical teams are equipped with the necessary tools, resources, and training to successfully execute their roles.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure all field operations are conducted in compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Stay informed about evolving regulatory requirements and ensure that field medical teams adhere to them in the execution of their activities.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Oversee the budget for field medical, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources while optimizing costs and maintaining the high quality of execution in all activities.
- Manage resource planning and forecasting to ensure the field medical teams are adequately supported to achieve objectives.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences, healthcare, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH) preferred
- 8-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a focus on Medical Affairs field excellence and operations
- Strong track record of leadership and management experience in a Medical Affairs or related operational role
- In-depth knowledge of Medical Affairs processes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholder
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Proficiency in project management software and tools
- Ability to travel as needed to support business objectives
