About the Role

The Domestic Cargo Operations Manager position is responsible for the management and administrative duties associated with the Matson Store Door Service and Hawaii Eastbound Office Clerical Unit personnel. This position will resolve all grievances connected with the Matson's Office Clerical Unit collective bargaining agreement. The position will hire employees and administer discipline as necessary.

The position has primary responsibility for management of Matson store door trucking pick-up/delivery services as well as domestic inbound cargo and other administrative duties to support the Long Beach office. The incumbent liaises with SSAT LB personnel to ensure successful and effective operations. This includes the performance standards for truck turn time, availability of inbound cargo and empty ensuring best in class service for Matson store door service customers.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent is responsible for the WB/EB Hawaii service operations which includes meeting delivery/ aging requirements for Hawaii EB and ensuring customer trucking needs are covered. Coordinate with Phoenix CSC to ensure all service requirements are met.

The incumbent performs supervisory duties with authority to coordinate workflow, to monitor the general conduct, tardiness, attendance, and quality and quantity of work performed consistent with department standards.

The incumbent must possess excellent people skills, communications skills, both verbal and written, the ability to analyze operation's information needs and recommend improvements, the ability to maintain positive rapport with personnel at all levels of the company and the ability to work on his/her own, with minimal direction.

The incumbent must have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities as well as excellent skills in decision-making, analysis and problem solving.

What you'll do:

  • This position has primary responsibility for the management of Matson's Office Clerical Unit employees in the Long Beach office. The position administers the collective bargaining agreement and resolves grievances connected with contract to ensure proper, fair, and consistent application of the agreement. The incumbent maintains all records in support of the company's position.
  • Responsible to supervise all daily tasks within the department to ensure the work is completed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Responsible to ensure contracted trucking vendors are providing best in class service to Matson customers.
  • Responsible to supervise the progress of Eastbound Hawaii desk to ensure cargo is moving through the terminals within the performance standards.
  • Responsible to supervise the necessary preparations for inbound cargo such as notices of arrival, special premounts, diversions, manifest changes, and other special requests. Ensure proper communication between office staff, terminals, and Customer Service Center.
  • Work with the various government agencies for the proper release of the cargo for Customs, USDA and USCG.
  • Work closely with Customer Service on vessel schedule, cut offs, equipment availability, and Custom's issues associated with the Westbound freight.
  • Work closely with Sales to ensure "HOT" high priority cargo is delivered in the time frame requested to meet or exceed the customer's expectations.

  • Transportation industry/container yard experience desirable

The annual salary range is posted for this position in California is $100,800 - $137,100. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
