SUMMARY: Assist nursing staff in maintaining the surgery schedule, by the prompt and thorough decontamination of O.R. instruments, equipment, and scopes. To maintain an orderly flow of decontamination, lubricating, packaging, and desired sterilization or disinfections.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum six months experience in a Surgery Center or Operating Room environment. Knowledge of autoclaving procedures required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: CRCST Certification from a recognized accredited program and/or Surgical Instrument Technician Certification from a recognized accredited program required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. Note: (other duties may be assigned, deleted or changed at any time, at the discretion of management, formally, or informally, either verbally or in writing).

1. Receipt of surgical supplies and instruments after each surgical case. Thorough cleaning, manually of canal joints, etc. Utilization of universal precautions while cleaning any instrument as per OSHA standards. Assemble all trays quickly and accurately.
2. Knowledgeable in the operation and safety features of E.O. and Steam and sterile process. Knowledge of terminal vs flashes sterilization process as well as identification of heat sensitive equipment.
3. Maintain weekly logs of biological incubated tests.
4. Knowledge of indicators for exposure, as well as proper packaging of materials and items suggested by manufacturers for processing.
5. Keep area clean and orderly in accordance with safety program.
6. Put scrub suits and jackets away in lounge. Clean autoclave, and do any other duty to keep the department running in a smooth, safe, and efficient way as to AORN standards.
7. Alert purchasing as workroom related supplies are needed.
8. Alert coordinator immediately if equipment appears to be malfunctioning.
9. Must be ambulatory in order that equipment may be expeditiously processed.
10. Attend, if necessary, seminars on GI procedures, equipment, and maintenance.

11. Other duties as assigned by charge nurse.
