Position: Senior Consumer Credit Underwriter | Division: Bank Product and Transformation| Work Days: Monday - Friday| Hours of Operation: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Position Overview: The Senior Consumer Credit Underwriter is responsible for the highest level of consumer loan underwriting expertise within the bank. This role ensures the accurate analysis and assessment of consumer loan applications in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines. The position requires an in-depth understanding of all consumer loan products, policies, and underwriting procedures, including Private Bank consumer loans. Additionally, this role provides leadership in training and coaching lower-level underwriters and supports process improvements to enhance underwriting efficiency. Essential Functions:
- Possesses
expert knowledge of consumer loan products, policies, and procedures, including general consumer and Private Bank consumer loans. - Underwrites
and approves consumer loans in accordance with Consumer Credit Policy and Guidelines, making rate and policy exceptions within assigned lending authority. Evaluates applications outside of lending authority and provides recommendations. - Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and monitors lower-level underwriters' activities to uphold departmental compliance.
- Provides
guidance and support to bankers, Private Bank, and Loan Processing teams to facilitate efficient and complete loan applications. - Analyzes
complex personal/business income tax returns and personal financial statements to determine loan eligibility. Reviews and assesses documentation provided by borrowers and external entities. - Serves
as a key resource for internal and external customer inquiries, responding in a timely and professional manner. - Develops
underwriting guidelines, written procedures, and lending strategies in collaboration with the Consumer Credit Manager. - Provides
on-the-job training, coaching, and guidance to lower-level underwriters, serving as a subject matter expert on consumer and Private Bank loan products. - Leads
new loan underwriting projects and bank-wide initiatives, making recommendations to improve the bank's credit decisioning process and underwriting efficiency. - Identifies
and implements process improvements to enhance risk management, improve efficiency, and ensure competitive advantage. - Assists
in developing performance plans and conducting annual reviews for lower-level underwriters. - Promotes
cross-selling opportunities by identifying related bank products and services that align with customers' financial needs. Coaches underwriters on cross-selling techniques. - Conducts
testing for rate changes and system upgrades within the loan origination system, identifying discrepancies and recommending enhancements. - Performs additional duties
as assigned by management to support the bank's lending objectives. - This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.
Experience & Education:
- 7+ years of Private Bank underwriting
experience with lending authority. - 5+ years of consumer loan/Private Bank
underwriting experience in a lead capacity. - Thorough knowledge of consumer lending and regulatory issues is a plus.
- Experience with credit
scoring, automated application, and underwriting systems is preferred. - Expertise in consumer lending document preparation and closing requirements is preferred.
- 7+ years of consumer loan/consumer experience preferred.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to underwrite complex consumer and Private Bank loans.
- Proficiency in assessing financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports to determine creditworthiness.
- In-depth knowledge of consumer lending policies, compliance regulations, and risk management practices.
- Experience with credit scoring models and automated underwriting systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and financial software systems such as Meridian Link and FiServ.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train, mentor, and collaborate with internal stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving and strategic-thinking capabilities to drive process improvements.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accuracy and compliance.

- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
