What You'll Do

Silklab at Tufts University is seeking a dedicated and highly organized Research Assistant with expertise in food and biomaterials to contribute to ongoing research at the intersection of sustainability, nutrition, and health. This position offers an opportunity to explore the application of biomaterials, such as silk-based systems, in food science, packaging, and biomedical applications.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research on food-grade biomaterials, focusing on sustainability, stability, and functional properties.
  • Develop and characterize silk-based and bio-derived materials for applications in food preservation, edible coatings, and packaging.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams working on biomedical, environmental, and food-related applications of biomaterials.
  • Participate in academic collaborations, projects and partnerships with other academic and industrial institutions which integrate food research with sustainability, and public health.
  • Assist in laboratory experiments, data collection, and analysis.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, reports, and presentations.

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biomaterials, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in food-grade biomaterials, sustainable packaging, or bio-based materials.
  • Knowledge of food chemistry, material characterization, and sustainability principles.
    Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and a commitment to exploring the broader implications of food materials in medicine, nutrition, and public health.
