Job Summary

GateWay Community College is now hiring a full-time residential automotive faculty member to start in Fall 2025. This position instructs, supervises, advises, and evaluates students from different college and high school populations in automotive classroom and lab settings that include, but are not limited to, courses in automotive maintenance, engine repair, suspension & steering, manual drivetrains, electrical/electronics, HVAC, automatic transmission, engine performance, hybrid vehicles, and brakes. Researches, develops, and implements automotive curricula changes and course schedules; actively participates in developing, updating, and implementing instructional lab activities. Works with local and statewide new-car dealerships, automobile manufacturers, and high schools for recruitment and internships.

Essential Functions

Supervises and instructs students in a classroom and/or lab setting; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades exams

Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, manufacturer certifications, seminars, and/or workshops

Maintains office hours to assist and advise students; and engages in the academic life of the college by participating in District wide and campus committees

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught

OR

Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree of higher

OR

A Master's degree of higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field

OR

A Master's degree or higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field.

Desired Qualifications

A. ASE master certification and MLR certification
B. Manufacturer's master technician certifications (Honda and/or Nissan certification preferred)
C. Five (5) or more years automotive occupational experience and a current training history (Preferably with Honda and/or Nissan manufacturer)
D. Recent automotive teaching and curriculum experience at a community college or high school level or a training facility, including non-traditional settings.
E. Meets ASE Education Foundation (formerly NATEF) program accreditations requirements.

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals
