DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Empties solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps, confidential paper, and from collection bins. according to established schedule. Transports covered wheeled of solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps, confidential paper, and from collection sites to designated areas. Packages and labels regulated medical waste according to policy. Visually inspects each regulated medical waste bag as it is removed from collection bin to ensure it is properly packaged according to established criteria. Notifies Supervisor of any bag not meeting packaging criteria and assists in repackaging to proper status. Reports improperly packaged medical waste on occurrence report indicating root cause whenever possible, i.e., unsolidified suction canister, untied bag, single bag, etc.. Operates compactor for solid waste and cardboard/recyclable paper. Loads and unloads solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps and confidential paper into designated containers. Cleans and organizes waste storage areas. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 lbs and occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs. This role may also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
