Associate Director, Antibody Discovery and Research Job #25-03A Mapp Biopharmaceutical, Inc. "Mapp" is a San Diego based, innovative biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through the development of life-saving monoclonal antibody treatment options to combat a variety of neglected and tropical infectious diseases, and in support of biodefense programs. The Early Research and Development Group (ERDG) and the Advanced Research and Development Group (ARDG) at Mapp Biopharmaceutical are responsible for the execution of high quality Research and Development activities to ensure the achievement of a robust portfolio through CMC, Nonclinical, Regulatory, Project Management, and Clinical activities consistent with Mapp's product development objectives. The antibody discovery group is responsible for isolating novel antibodies that may be used in future drug products. This includes creating and producing the antigens necessary to isolate these antibodies and assessing the antibodies for their potential as therapeutics. The Associate Director, Antibody Discovery and Research manages multiple grants, contracts and personnel to successfully meet portfolio deliverables. Basic Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline 10 years of experience in an academic and/or industry research laboratory Author on scientific publications in respected peer reviewed journals Demonstrated excellence in the following competency areas: Protein expression in bacterial and mammalian cell systems Protein purification, including experience with automated HPLC and FPLC systems, fluency in GE Unicorn FPLC software Flow cytometry and single B-cell sorting techniques Experience with ForteBio Octet technology and isothermal titration calorimetry Experience effectively troubleshooting experimental strategies in the laboratory Experience in leading scientific personnel to execute against program deliverables Experience in designing and generating novel antibody based-therapeutic formats such as ADCs and multispecific Experience assessing, developing and implementing computational tools for lead selection and optimization Preferred Qualifications Experience with primer design and RT-PCR particularly for monoclonal antibody isolation and cloning from single B-cells Experience with protein expression in insect cells Experience expressing and purifying viral proteins Responsibilities Supervises a group of scientist(s) and research associate(s) who are focused on antibody discovery for infectious diseases and toxins, as needed Optimizes and designs expression constructs for protein stability, solubility and expression levels Produces and Purifies proteins of interest to a purity level that consistent with downstream applications Assesses isolated antibodies for binding and activity Maintains detailed records of all experiments performed Develops and implements in vitro assays to assess protein/antibody activity Trains new hires Presents and communicates effectively experimental results to the group Able to develop and implement new laboratory technics and protocols based on literature searches Contribute to the conception of novel therapeutic concepts, strategies and modalities Mapp offers a competitive compensation and benefits package in addition to this exciting and challenging job. Mapp's anticipated pay scale for this position is $120,000 to $185,000 per year plus any applicable bonuses. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the candidate's level of education, and type and length of experience within the job and/or within the industry. Currently this opening is a temporary position only through an agency, although if it converts to regular Mapp employment, the following benefits would apply: Medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits are available to eligible employees and their families. This position is an on-site position located in Mapp's new state-of-the-art San Diego facility.
