Purchasing Senior Manager

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an experienced Purchasing Senior Manager to set operational and team goals for team members. The leader will be responsible for delivering business results achieved through people and operational processes across multiple manufacturing sites.

This role is a full-time virtual/remote position with travel up to 25%.

What we're looking for:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Logistics Management or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 15 years of previous advanced experience in purchasing/logistics roles.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing small/medium size teams.
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • Requires advanced knowledge of supply chain business practices and technical or operational skills related to the role.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to influence team and management.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders across organizations and build relationships cross functionally.
  • Pragmatic with ability to balance speed of execution against requested deliverable.
  • Proficient in Excel and SAP (Power Bi preferred).
  • Excellent communication/presentation/analytical skills.
  • Reliable and confident leading a team, follow strategic direction and drive change.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high-quality focus.
  • Ability to work under pressure with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of leading department meetings and interact at director level and above when required.

How you will thrive and create an impact:

  • Ensure team members have a clear understanding and receive training and comply with corporate or department policies, procedures, and standard work practices.
  • Responsible for influencing others to deliver results and drive change as well as engaging and or leading cross functional collaboration initiatives.
  • Manage team within a department or organization to deliver operational results.
  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day goal setting for operational objectives.
  • Provide support in resolving all goods inwards queries regarding deliveries/stock/purchase orders as appropriate.
  • Act as escalation support for managing the alignment of pricing.
  • Lead the delivery of team objectives on agreed metrics using TDM & ABS tools.
  • Support the escalation of open PO service issues when necessary.
  • Co-ordinate with tactical support teams.
  • Liaise with the operations, product management, planning, and customer service teams to ensure all information regarding open purchase orders are communicated.
  • Attend & or chair supplier operational and meetings when necessary, highlighting service issues and finding suitable solutions.
  • Attend and delegate attendance at supplier performance management reviews and host when requested.
  • Coach and develop professional and supervisory staff of direct reports.
  • Responsible for delivering training, providing employee coaching, and leading 1:1 career development discussion.
  • Responsible for leading and completing the annual performance management review process for direct staff and ensuring all leaders complete for the department.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, global standardization work, and ABS value stream mapping events.
  • Ability to support executive level assignments as assigned with varying levels of complexity.
