Cell Engineering / Molecular Biology Scientist in Protein Technologies Center

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
$86,320 - $154,960
United States, Tennessee, Memphis
262 Danny Thomas Place (Show on map)
Apr 04, 2025
Protein Technologies Center (PTC) within the Department of Structural biology is seeking a scientist with experience in CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing strategy to systematically tag endogenous proteins with fluorescent and affinity tags for structural, functional, and drug discovery studies; also, for investigating protein interactions and mapping protein localization.

Better at Work. Better at Life.

When you work at St. Jude, you'll join a highly collaborative work culture that inspires you every day to be your best. With opportunities for learning and growth, you can shape a career path that is right for you while also enjoying all the benefits and stability of working for a world-class institution. This includes work-life balance with generous paid time-off and on-campus conveniences that make life a little easier. Join us and you'll quickly see why St. Jude is consistently ranked by our employees on Glassdoor as a "Best Place to Work."

The PTC is a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression, purification, biophysical analysis of proteins and structure determination. Cryo Electron Microscopy has enabled us to visualize molecular and atomistic details inside the cell. Manipulation of cell using molecular engineering tools will help to understand the complex nature of cellular processes at molecular level. This is a bench-based scientist role where the scientist will edit the cell lines and confirm if the editing was successful and if genomic stability is maintained during the clonal line-generation process. The Scientist will be providing pivotal support to several structural cell biology projects both strategically and tactically.

The World's Brightest Minds Always Innovate

At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we know what can be achieved when the brightest scientific minds face the fewest barriers. That's why we provide world-class facilities. State-of-the-art technologies. Extraordinary support. • Engineer cell lines using CRISPR gene editing technology for generating gene knockouts and knock-ins (SNVs, gene tags, etc.) and confirm the edits.

  • Generate stable cell lines using Non-viral and viral-based delivery systems.

  • Implement advanced technologies to develop stable target-over expressed cell lines, pools, clones and NGS library preparation.

  • Proven track record in molecular cloning (In-Fusion or LIC or PIPE or Gateway or FX; overlap extension PCR/Gibson assembly/BioBrick/recombineering), handling large and/or complex DNA constructs, including combinatorial libraries; site-directed and/or saturation mutagenesis.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Eight (8) years of relevant work experience is required with a Bachelor's degree.

  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience is required with a Master's degree.
