Overview
Buildings & General Service (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting and unique opportunity with room for growth as a maintenance mechanic II within the Operations & Management Division. This position is highly interactive with the customers of the Asa Bloomer building with support for their Division's needs. This position plans small day-to-day projects, works semi independently, and communicates with the facility's maintenance supervisor. Examples of work include, but are not limited to:
This is a full-time position and the hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00pm. This position requires successful completion of multiple background checks. BGS is a diverse organization with over 340 employees serving state agencies and departments within state government. BGS provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their mission. Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present. Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) or more years of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance. Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a vocational/technical training program in building trades, mechanical repair, industrial arts, or a closely related field. Special Requirements
Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites. A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed. Total Compensation
