Min T/E Requirements |
Master's degree in Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Higher Education Administration or related field, and at least three years' experience working with students with disabilities and compliance; knowledge of psycho-educational test instruments; related administrative/ programmatic experience; ability to address multiple tasks and work efficiently under deadlines; monitor extensive details while focusing on overall program mission; working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, the Americans with Disabilities Act (
ADA) of 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (
ADAAA) of 2008, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (
FERPA), and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education compliance and disability; demonstrated experience in, and an on-going commitment to, working effectively with and across diverse communities; ability to work consistently with a high level of professionalism and with discretion; exceptional written and oral communication skills; the successful candidate must be able to quickly become knowledgeable about UNCP's organizational structures, policies and procedures. |

Primary Purpose of Organization Unit |
The office of Accessibility Resource Center (
ARC) provides, arranges, and coordinates accommodations for students in courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities.Accessibility Resource Center is the designated office that obtains and files disability related documents, certifies eligibility for services, determines reasonable accommodations, and develops plans for the provision of such accommodations for students with disabilities.
ARC's mission is to create an accessible community where people are judged on their ability, not their disability. The Accessibility Resource Center strives to provide individuals the tools by which they can better accomplish their educational goals. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Director is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Accessibility Resource Center (
ARC) regarding academic accommodations for
UNCP students under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, the Americans with Disabilities Act (
ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (
ADAAA), and state and University policies.
The
ADA Coordinator has primary responsibilities as the campus compliance officer for the Americans with Disabilities Act (
ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (
ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998. Under the direction of the Associate Provost and
AVC for Academic Affairs, the
ADA Coordinator shall be responsible for (1) leading efforts to move beyond compliance and toward seamless access, (2) collaborating with University offices, faculty, staff, students, and campus advocacy groups to inform decision-making and to ensure University compliance with University policy and state and federal mandates, (3) the
ADA coordinator will hear student appeals, and (4) working with facility services to conduct physical audits, maintaining knowledge of needed improvements, and for ensuring that new projects are in compliance with disability standards. Along with the primary duties of
ADA compliance, the
ADA Coordinator may participate in University training, complaint intake, and other duties as assigned. |
