Position Summary

As a Certified Locksmith, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing locks, electronic access systems, and related hardware. You will also be an integral part of managing key systems, estimating project costs, and ensuring the safety and security of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lock & Hardware Installation & Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair mechanical and electronic locks, hydraulic closing fixtures, and related hardware across campus facilities.
  • Electronic Access Control Systems: Oversee the installation, programming, and repair of electronic access control systems, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to secure areas.
  • Key Management: Cut new or duplicate keys, maintain master key files, and track records of key distribution to ensure proper security and control of access.
  • Project Estimation & Coordination: Work with unit representatives to estimate the scope and cost of projects, ensuring accurate planning and execution.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of supplies, parts, and materials; track work performed and materials used in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Sub-contractor Oversight: Oversee and coordinate the activities of subcontractors, ensuring timely and efficient completion of projects.
  • Safety & Environmental Practices: Promote workplace safety and environmental practices while ensuring proper use and care of equipment and supplies.

This is a specialized role within the Facilities Maintenance Area 2 department. As a Certified Locksmith, you will ensure the campus remains safe and secure by overseeing both mechanical and electronic lock systems, managing key systems, and coordinating with subcontractors to ensure timely project completion.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America or completed Door & Hardware Technician (DHT) credential by the Door and Hardware Institute.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Master Locksmith (CML) by the Associated Locksmiths of America.
  • In-depth knowledge of biometric and advanced electronic access control systems.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale security projects. Ability to provide accurate project estimates. Coordinate and oversee contractor work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of excellent customer service.
  • Experience with specialized locksmithing and access control software (CMMS)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
