Position Summary

The Driver/Maintenance is responsible for providing reliable transportation services and performing general maintenance duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of vehicles and facilities. This role involves transporting, goods, or supplies as needed while adhering to safety regulations and schedules. Additionally, the position includes performing routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of the facility and equipment to maintain a clean and functional environment.

Essential Functions



  • Pick up daily donation in accordance with established, approved store and The Salvation Army policies.
  • Identify and propose maintenance projects necessary for property upkeep of The Salvation Army Properties; handle small projects such as light painting, minor plumbing issues, and miscellaneous repairs, in-house as time and skills permit, obtain bids for vendors.
  • Work cooperatively with staff members to address their custodian/driving needs.
  • Cleaning duties include but are not limited to dusting, sweeping, mopping cleaning windows, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms.
  • Assist with seasonal programs, including Kettles, Angel Tree, Back-to-School.
  • Assist the set-up/clean-up of events.
  • Ensure program spaces are ready for use
  • Emptying Trash cans outside and keeping parking lot free of garbage and debris
  • Secure all windows and doors daily upon exiting the building if no other staff are present to do so.
  • Advise Corps Officers of necessary purchases such as cleaning supplies etc.
  • Assist with food pantry as directed by Corps Officers/Social Service Director, including but not limited to filling shelves, counting donations, organizing shelves.
  • Use protective equipment when using cleaning supplies or spraying chemicals; follow appropriate safety policies and procedures, attend staff meetings as required.
  • Keep complete, up-to-date driving and maintenance records for all vehicles.
  • Must successfully complete Decision Driving Safety Test before driving Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program. (Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period) see The Salvation Army Safety Fleet Policy
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent
  • Bilingual English/Spanish helpful.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule if necessary.
  • Working knowledge of custodial and light maintenance equipment
  • Demonstrate a sense of cleanliness.
  • Must maintain a California Driver's License
  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must not have more than 2 moving violations or accidents within a 12-month period.
  • Must successfully complete Decision Driving Safet Test and DMV clearance before driving for The Salvation Army and annually recertify as required to qualify as an authorize driver.
