Power System Engineer - EMT Studies

DNV Energy Systems' group has an exciting opportunity for a Power System Engineer (EMT Studies) in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will contribute in delivering technical insights and providing customers with excellent customer service.

What You'll Do



  • Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), harmonic, energization etc.
  • Develop/tune PSCAD models, perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking analysis
  • Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external Customers
  • Timely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budget
  • Stay up to date with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, CIGRE
  • Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations
  • Contribute to the team's research and innovative activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance team's performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
  • Cultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system


This role is based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oak Brook (IL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.

The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.
