A Brief Overview
Participates in planning, implementing, supporting and optimizing Pharmacy based projects related to Information Systems & Applications within the CHOP Pharmacy department - Inpatient, Retail, Specialty Care and Home Care

EPIC
Works with EPIC Willow to support changes, maintenance, and enhancements
Participates in supporting and troubleshooting of the Epic EHR system by identifying potential problems, and implementing resolutions in
collaboration EPIC Willow and other EPIC Clinical teams as needed

PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY & AUTOMATION
Maintains the integrity of automation systems, relevant databases and interfaces
In collaboration with Information Services and product vendors configures, implements, and maintains Pharmacy automation and
technology to optimize pharmacy practice, pharmacy systems, and the medication-use process

INFUSION PUMP DATABASE MAINTENANCE
Support updates of smart pump infusion databases

What you will do

  • EPIC
  • Assist in assessing problems and providing recommendations related to Epic interfaced Pharmacy applications and the medication dispensing process. This includes; identifying functionality to improve patient care, medication use processes, and pharmacy operations
  • In support of EPIC Willow, evaluates, develops, implements, and maintains Epic / Pharmacy Automation test systems functionality to meet clinical objectives
  • In concert with Epic Willow, performs testing of Epic interfaced Pharmacy applications prior to Epic modifications or upgrades
  • PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY AND AUTOMATION
  • Performs Systems Assessments
  • Performs continual assessment of available application enhancements and department requirements to facilitate continued improvements in software capability as required to meet the Department of Pharmacy goals
  • Ensures existing systems are processing effectively and accurately according to system and objectives
  • Supports application implementation, upgrades and maintenance where applicable. Includes but is not limited to:
  • Software installations : including; routine updates/fixes, product upgrades, patches, enhancements, customizations, and new version releases
  • Database maintenance
  • In concert with EPIC Willow and Application Vendor, identify interface requirements to support build by the interface team to then allow coordinated testing of the interface between applications
  • Provides support for internal and external contacts
  • Coordinates with staff members and vendor to prepare for implementation and support of new and existing application upgrades
  • Assists in initial and on-going user training and education in the use of new department applications
  • Provides on-going user support and/or assist in education for enhancements to existing applications
  • Communicates support needs and opportunities for system improvements to Informatics Pharmacist
  • Functions as a resource to department personnel regarding functionality, maintenance and support of Pharmacy technologies
  • Participates in project planning
  • Participates in the coordination and implementation of projects directly related to Pharmacy applications or other hospital projects impacting pharmacy as designated by department management
  • Participates in application optimization and training
  • Provides onsite optimization and support of department applications
  • Continuous review of application upgrade release notes to determine benefits and feasibility of implementation
  • Assists department leaders and educators to facilitate integration of new applications or system enhancements into department SOPs and work processes
  • Participates in developing and delivering communication for all upgrades/changes and disseminates them to providers and staff
  • In concert with stakeholders, provides communication to department staff regarding planned systems outages and ensures downtime materials are up to date and staff is trained
  • Assists with staff training, particularly in conjunction with new implementations and significant upgrades
  • Communicates enhancement requests to application vendors
  • Equipment
  • Coordinates HW Implementation, support and upgrades with Information Systems, vendors and Pharmacy Administration
  • Coordinates initial ordering of consumable supplies upon implementation of new HW
  • Maintains inventory of parts required to emergently support Pharmacy managed systems
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Assists Informatics Pharmacist in recording and maintenance of data required to track; education, access, maintenance and/or testing of Pharmacy applications
  • Creates and/or maintains reports to monitor drug utilization or operational statistics
  • Assists department management in determining sources and requirements for operational data requests
  • INFUSION PUMP DATABASE MAINTENANCE
  • Assists in maintaining infusion pump libraries for CareFusion Alaris pumps, Medfusion pumps, B. Braun pumps, and CADD Solis Epidural pumps
  • Assists in updating or validation of pump library databases per recommendations of the Infusion Pump Data Set Advisory Group and Medication Safety Team

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Technical Diploma IS/IT - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or Health Care related field - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years within a healthcare environment - Required
  • At least five (5) years Relevant Information Systems analyst - Preferred
  • use of Microsoft Office applications (Specialist) - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to translate computer technology to user friendly language
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, coaworkers and cross functional groups
  • Advanced documentation skills
  • Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Advanced critical thinking, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office products.
