Under general supervision, assists in maintaining the safety of the City's streets, sidewalks, and drainage ways. This is accomplished by operating heavy equipment, sealing cracks in streets, filling potholes in streets with asphalt, and pouring concrete curbs and sidewalks when necessary. Other duties may include directing traffic, ensuring worksite and work crew safety, performing maintenance on equipment and machinery, documenting work completed, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position may provide direction for other employees.

Essential Functions
-
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Performs maintenance on the City's streets, sidewalks, and drainage ways by operating heavy equipment and machinery such as trucks, AMZ, and roller, filling potholes with asphalt, sealing cracks in the streets, utilizing roller to seal and even asphalt distribution, pouring concrete for curbs on roadways and sidewalks, and laying asphalt.
- Maintains the City's heavy equipment, machinery, and other tools by performing preventative maintenance, repairing equipment when needed, replacing faulty parts, determining what problems exist with equipment, and ensuring equipment is properly and safely operating.
- Ensures the safety of crews, citizens, and worksites by performing traffic control operations, placing cones in designated work areas, setting up warning signs for drivers, and directing traffic when needed.
- Completes administrative duties by documenting maintenance performed on equipment and machinery and reporting maintenance as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant experience. Knowledge of:
- Federal, State, and City laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Safe operation of the equipment used and of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code provisions relating to the operation of light and heavy motorized equipment.
- Methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in street and drainage system construction and maintenance.
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment,
Skill in:
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with elected officials, professional and support staff, vendors, the public, and City employees.
- Providing outstanding customer service and conflict resolution.
- Understanding and interpreting complex laws, rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Operating light and heavy motorized equipment effectively and safely.
- Servicing and making minor repairs on equipment.
- Applying safety standards to prevent hazards.
- Working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
- Effectively communicating in both oral and written formats.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's license.
