SUMMARY

We are currently seeking 7 PGY-2 Resident Pharmacists to join our Pharmacy Resident team. These positions are full time with benefits, 80 hours per pay period, rotating day/night shift with rotating weekends, 8-hour shifts.

Under the direction of a preceptor, supervisor, or Director of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Resident performs a wide variety of clinical, operational, and technical duties for Pharmacy Services. The Resident will provide pharmacotherapy assessments and real-time interventions with the medical staff, provide in-services, mentor students and understand the operations of Pharmacy Services within HCMC. Responsible for acting as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug-related information and literature. Responsible for maintaining confidential reports, entering, and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, preparing medications, and ensuring quality and safe medication practices. Maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. Plans and organizes work schedule of supportive personnel, as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Provide continuous, patient specific assessment of the pharmacotherapy needs of a specialized patient population, making real time interventions with the medical staff and nursing staff to facilitate optimal drug therapy and facilitate the provision of other pharmacy services
  • Be an active member of the disciplinary quality improvement activities in the area of service
  • Maintain a current and advanced knowledge of pharmacotherapy, pathophysiology, and procedures in area of practice
  • Be able to critically evaluate and interpret medical information (including primary literature sources) when providing specific information to physicians
  • Be able to access drug information from the standard and non-standard drug information texts and sources
  • Take responsibility for order verification and accuracy checks for the area assigned
  • Complete and present a research project prior to the end of the resident year
  • Mentor PharmD students; assume responsibility for teaching and evaluating students
  • Represent the pharmacy department by attending appropriate HCMC committees
  • Complete projects as requested by your preceptor, pharmacy staff or multidisciplinary staff
  • Participate in code response team when ACLS certified
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team interdepartmentally to facilitate the department /unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • PGY2 Residents may also work as a pharmacist toward the end of their residency year, after they have completed other requirements of the residency

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/ Work Experience:



  • Graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP Accredited PGY1 Residency Program


License/Certifications:



  • Pharmacist license from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
