Are you a hands-on problem solver who enjoys seeing the impact of your work every day? At NC State University, your skills will directly support the safety, comfort, and efficiency of our beautiful campus. We're seeking a skilled and motivated
HVAC Technician to join our Building Maintenance and Operations team-a collaborative group that takes pride in craftsmanship, teamwork, and innovation.
In this dynamic role, you'll maintain and repair essential
HVAC systems, boilers, and building equipment, while also assisting with general electrical and plumbing tasks. We're looking for someone who communicates effectively, follows directions, uses field technology confidently, and can lift up to 60 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodations).
What You'll Do:
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems, including cutting/threading pipe and installing valves and fixtures.
- Perform electrical work up to 600V-maintaining panels, breakers, motors, and lighting systems.
- Troubleshoot and service HVAC control systems, including temperature/humidity controls, pneumatic valves, and sensors.
- Diagnose and repair boilers, turbines, pumps, steam lines, and insulation systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning units based on manufacturer guidelines.
- Lead and mentor others in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control system repairs and maintenance.
- Work at various heights using extension ladders and high lifts, as well as in tight or confined spaces.

Other Responsibilities |
- You'll be part of our rotating on-call team, carrying a pager for one week every 10 to 14 weeks-ready to jump in and help when your expertise is needed most.
- As essential personnel, you're a key player in keeping campus running smoothly-even during severe weather. When others stay home, you step up, including pitching in with snow and ice removal to keep our community safe and accessible.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

- Knowledgeable in local, state, and national codes related to assigned trades
- Technical training in HVAC systems
- Experience in the operation, troubleshooting and repair of building automation systems and controls

- Universal CFC certificate
